Hi, Given that you didn't actually get much help from the previous posts I'll give you a non techo guide. Check the plug lead and maybe even consider replacing it. Hard starting could be because you have no compression left, from things you say it sounds like it is a bit poked all round. Apart from dying when "flexed" does it run ok once you have it started? Aside from no compression, hard starting can only be two things so how hard can it be? (let it go guys!) Either petrol or spark and given it die a guess would be spark. I don't know what your particular scooter is like but you check the spark by taking the lead off the plug, holding it a short distance from the plug, get someone to kick start it and see it you get a nice fat spark. If not then get someone bigger to kick start it with more gusto or track the fault from there. Go to the library and borrow a manual and follow the fault guide in it. Hope somewhere in here you find some assistance.

The "little moving pictures" are called gif's. You can make them using all sorts of software or easier to download one you like off the net (there's plenty of locations) Just be aware of the size limitations your user profile allows. See FAQ's

Get a spring for your starter - they don't cost much (a couple of bucks) and you'll do better for it. If your scooter is hard to start try making sure the fuel lines are clean/clear. make sure the carbs are clean/clear. Make sure all your cables are intact (it sounds like you've already got issues there) In short go through all options carefully one at a time.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.

    we will remember them

That would do it. They don't like being snapped in half.

You should be able to join the piston ring back together with some PVA glue - available from isle 4 at Mitre 10.

Actually, seriously, I once silver soldered a broken ring on a James. And it worked!

Why not just run one piston ring. less drag on the piston would give you a bunch more power...
