Here ya go, some excerps from posts 4, 5, & 6

“At home I've made a bit of a list of potential trips I'd like to have a got at some time but they are longer summer trips though - like circumnavigating Mt Hutt on the gravel roads then into the Ashburton lakes where there are some tracks. Will bring some maps next trips to show you all.” …

… “I agree with you on the looking around thing. The Waimak is good, provides a challenge, and is close to home, but it's nice to explore new areas too. Mt Hutt and Ashburton lakes sound good.

I reckon we should all come up with a couple of areas that we want to have look at. That should give us a bunch of places to explore over the coming Spring, Summer and we'll all get to see the areas we've been curious about with the confidence of being part of a group. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm keener to venture further off the beaten track when there's someone around to assist if get in the shit. I'm also keen to do an overnighter somewhere too - not stay in a cabin, but take everything with me and camp in the middle of nowhere.” …

… “I'm hearing you with this one. Righty-O peeps, homework for this month is to come up with some places to go riding during spring and summer.

The overnighter sounds like a good idea as well.”

Mmmm, I see...I see that I haven't read the thread properly. I looked at Transalpers map in post 32 and thought that is what we were going to do, I guess it hasn't been decided.

Too bad, I'll just follow the leader

Um, yes this trip was decided and expected to be following the map before mine. (same as mine but with out the red line).
Refer to lemans post #28 and Farqueues distance summery and map post 30.

The homework is more about what could follow in the comming months.
I'd like to do some Reefton area riding but other than that anything goes.

Now that the BMW1150GS is coming along for a ride as well.
And as it could hardy fit between some of the deep ruts and tree's.
And we also have a new rider that maybe an X MX champ or may not be.

We are going a good distance and I do not want to break up the group and have me riding like a mad thing to try and find the missing riders, like last time. (Which is hard in the thicker bush with all the other tracks)
Or us digging pulling and pushing the beast out of a deep mud hole and costing him damage.

I did a recon today in the 4X4 to see where the big Beemer should fit with out too much trouble as it is his (Mr S's) first off road ride on the beast and we can ride together and all enjoy.

I think the route will be good for everyone and challenge with out scaring the shit out of anyone.

As for the Eyre River I now think it would be too hard on the BMW and SDU (maybe coming out as well, she hates soft shingle) and will have to play that by ear and see how the trip up the river goes.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

I agree. I was thinking we should be doing an easier ride this time, as we don't want to scare the noobs off just yet. I'm happy with an easy ride.

Ghost Lemur - did you manage to get your leave pass stamped to come out and play? This would be ideal 1st foray into the dirt for you too.

    Darn.

I was hoping to have the RMX back in running order for this ride, but alas its not to be.
Although I do now have a MIG welder to play with!
I just cant use it yet cos I dont have a 15amp plug to plug it into!
Thats tomorrows project, before I can fix the RMX pipe.

Well that a bugger isn't it.
O well, get well and we will catch you next time.

The bit of rain over night will be a good thing and I was hoping for some as it will help keep the dust down and shouldn't damage the tracks one little bit.

Pity but them the breaks, next time.
More power new tools life can't be that bad.
Have fun with the new welder.
We get away with 10amp plugs, but it is better with 15amp, good luck finding one.
