South Island Safari - Feb 19 to March 4, 2007

    Hey there all,

This is something I have pondered doing for the last few months, a SOUTH ISLAND SAFARI!

For those of you that are able to take the time off, this is normally when the best weather of the year is... My time off work was confirmed yesterday 8/8

Initial Plan would be as follows:

Leave AKL on the Saturday 17th, in the AM

Ride to New Plymouth - Overnight there

From there, on the 18th head down to Welly, then cross to Picton on the 2pm-ish sailing.

From there, this is the fun bit, Spend up to 12 days seeing the South!

Likely Accommodation would be backpackers/pubs or cheap motels

The plan would be to cover the entire Island, East Coast, West Coast, Collingwood to Invercargill...

As this is some time off yet, this post is really to gauge the levels of interest from you (I already know of 3 people who are keen), and take it from there!

    Calendar Event is here
PS: I wont be taking the VTR250 on this trip, can only imagine the pain levels the backside would endure..., will have a new bike by then...

Just a thought...one of the biggest rallies of the year is in Waimate-ish (near Timaru) on the first weekend of march...called (aptly enough) the March Hare.
Why not try to incorporate that into your trip?

    Most Excellent...

Also, the duration of the trip is reasonably flexible (Start date to leave AKL remains the 19th)

I will probably look to get ferry tickets booked for the 21st, that way its not a mad rush to get to Wellington to get straight on a boat
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...
