    2006 Race to the Pie

After years of successful events called "race to the sky" I think it's time we have the Welly equivilent.

I propose we stage the following event

"The 2006 Rimutuka race to the pie"

Each contestant will be given 10 minutes to ascend to the Rimutaka cafe from the Upper Hutt side bridge and eat as many pies as they can within the time remaining.

The winner will be the contestant that consumes the most pies before the 10 minutes is up. Each contestant will be able to nominate their prefered flavour, but each pie must comply to NZ standard in terms of size and weight/

A $10 entry fee should cover expenses.

Date as yet not set but would need to be before it gets too warm.
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.

I dont think $10 is going to cover the expense of all your pies buddy.

So what you're saying is that given you'll never be the fastest to the top - you've geared it so you can win this by gorging yourself on pies?

Thats what he *thinks* I reckon that they'd be a few people who could give him a run for his money, so to speak...

How about you allow pie eating on the way to the summit also? Like a cross-training type of thing.

Its a shame that drink driving/riding is illegal. I'd have more chance if it was a beer drinking race..

I think it has great potential but needs to be more about the pies! So make it 15 minutes. Then a race down with a gut full of pies!

Buggar to all of you. All this talk of pies has made me crave one, gonna have to get one for lunch now. So much for the healthy eating diet I was trying to stick too!

Of course racing on public roads without prior approval etc is illegal so this would be a hypothetical race, wouldn't it?

I agree, staging a 'Race to the Pies' on the Rimutaka Hill road is TOTALLY inappropriate and you lot should be deeply ashamed of yourselves..

It should obviously happen on the PIEkakareki Hill road...

Hmm - do it in the nude during a southerly and it could be a hypothemical race...
