    WTB: Decent Mountain Bike

I know its nothing to do with motorbikes..

But im looking for one, and have no idea whats good and whats not anymore.
What should i be looking out for?
Will be used mainly for easy downhill, road riding and the odd jump here and there.

    Thanx

    Hey there

It depends on what price range you are looking at...

You can get semi decent "jump" bikes off trademe from around $400 right up to Kona's for $6000

Was looking at around $500, but can spend a little more if needed.

So what are some good brands to look for?
Dont worry about listing them all, just a couple good ones.

Well I'm not an expert, but I was looking around a few weeks ago for a bike, but have since ditched the idea...

Kona seems like a great brand, but very expensive... Avanti do some good mountain bikes... but of all the brands, the best quality wise and price wise would be a brand called "Giant".

    Check out this thread: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=32214

Its about bikes and a few people commented on good brands.

All I can say is if your looking on TradeMe for a bike... avoid the "Yukon" brand, as I've been told the frames are very weak and they don't use quality gear parts... even though they look the part and are cheap...

    Good luck!

For what its worth I have got a Giant and have given it heaps and it is still going strong. I am a bit of a fan for bikes ( powered and otherwise ) with a minimum of useless bling bling bits which just fall off so spend your money on something sensible and reliable - a good treddly shop should be able to help you

There are a couple on Trade Me at the moment, so will keep an eye out.
I can tell the shit ones just by looking at the pics. There is a noticable difference.

Definitely hardtail. Me and Mrs SG got Specialized Hardrock Comp and are absolutely crazy about it. See if you can find a last year model (we bought our 2004 model in '05 for half price).
    Good luck!
