    New wannabe Kiwi Biker

    Hello ladies and gentlemen,

a quick introduction: my real name is Francesco, I am an italian software engineer currently living in Japan, and I am beginning to consider moving to NZ; given my passion for bikes, well, here I am posting on this forum...

I would like to ask you fellow bikers how is NZ from the biking point of view, I hear great stories about it!
The place I come from in Italy is North East, a small town withind the Dolomites mountains, awesome place to ride!

On a side note I would also loke to ask some info about importing a bike and about registering one-off special bikes.
In the UK where I lived for 4 years it is possible to import and register pretty much anything that has two wheels, and there is a special process (SVA) to make one-off bikes compliant to the road law, how about in NZ?

Thank you guys very much in advance, maybe I will get to meet some of you eventually if I actually move to NZ!

    Cheers,

    Frio

Welcome to the site, NZ is pretty much biker heaven with some of the most scenic and windy roads in the world in my opinion. As for importing bikes, we also have a low volume registration process that you can use for specialist bikes.
try looking at http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/ for more info.
there are also links from this site that will give you additional information.
    Good luck

Benvenuto in Nuova Zealanda. If you come over of course. One thing I'll say is that the car drivers here are not as tolerant of bikes as those in Italy coz not everyone grows up riding one. The bikers that are here are a friendly bunch as you'll see from the threads but NZ desperately needs more bikers. As for imported bikes - you'll find all the speciality Jap machines are already imported and Ducati, Aprilia, Cagiva and MV Augusta are well represented on the roads.
    Ciao dude.

Hello guys, thanks again for the kind words.
I am not sure whether I will actually come to NZ or not yet, a few things need to get into place, I hope they will; the destination would actually be Wellington.

As for imports, I like strange bikes, so I might get a Guzzi Daytona before moving and then bring it over there...

    Welcome Frio,

Wellington would be a good choice, its the biker capital here with 2 "main" great routes out of here.

Just make sure you don't end up in Auckland as they have carparks on the motorway

Hey Wasp, thank for the suggestion, I like twisty roads, straights are not fun on a bike...

Piss off ya Eytie git, the bikes from your country are notorious bad electrics, they cost a fortune to service and tune, ya get excited over nothing and I bought a Bambina and it crapped out too!!
But your Soccer team is not too bad!

Welcome to NZ, ya have to get use to the crap on this site!

Make sure you bring a red Italian bike over here and you'll be a winner!!
