A very good depiction of wake turbulence..
Cheers
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Could someone please supply me with a technical explanation of that please?
Whoooosssshhhhh - yeah, that about covers it.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.

I get it now

I remember seeing a video of a space shuttle landing. You could see the wake turbulence in the air (No smoke or cloud needed) because the air was so hot from being heated by the bottom the the shuttle. The world, through the vortices created by the wingtips, looked as if it were being twisted on its head.
and just like THAT, you're upside down in your 172....
Scary feeling turning onto final behind a 400 seater when you're in a 2 seater. The invisible bitchslap from hell...
Nice pic!

I was in Auckland a few weeks back (Well Whenuapai actually) and watching one of our Hercs take off. The humidity was such that the props made that brilliant cork screw pattern in the air (just like on the airforce Advert). Very cool to see it in real life.
I don't get to see it at Ohakea, as the wind is usually blowing 40 bistards (this conditions aren't right for it to happen).
next time you are at whenuapai and a heavy is doing circuits landing on to the west (21 or 27 cant remember) go down to kauri road and park at the intersection. When they fly over they are only 50ft above you, but the real shock comes about 5-10seconds after when the wake blows past and whistles thru the powerlines - pretty cool experience.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
