The Labour Party has been found to have improperly spent $400,000 of your money on political advertising. Instead of paying it back, Michael Cullen proposes retrospective legislation which will legalise unlawful spending. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/st...ectid=10395688
I think this is outrageous. In the first place this is taxpayers money wrongly used by government MPs to shamelessly - I repeat shamelessly, promote their own political interests.
Secondly retrospectively legalising a past wrong is frowned upon in most democracies. It is very rare. And this is particularly true when it is solely the politicians themselves who benefit.
It gets worse. Cullen is now saying that all political party spending in NZ should be funded by the taxpayer. An open chequebook from us so they can send smug self-congratulatory letters to us about how wonderful they are. Makes me sick.
