    Pissed Penguin Rally (2006)

Picked up a flyer for the Pissed Penguin Rally at Wilsher Bay domain, Kaka Point.
This year it is on 23-24 September. Pre paid entries $20, on the day $25.
Bike cruise leaves about 12:30 which I presume is on the Saturday (can anyone confirm this). The number for more info is 03 412 8240
Photos and reports from last year looked like it was a good rally.

Been on it a couple of times, the worst aspect of it has been the weather - and at that time of year you've got to expect that.

Will be going to this next one, got time off so keep fingers crossed the weather turns out dry.

They leave the rally site at K.P. about 12:30 on the Saturday for the run, they use to do a loop through Balclutha-Clydevale-Clinton and back - or those who didn't mind mud and dirt use to go through the back road to Owaka before heading back to K.P.

This year I beleive the route includes Kaitangata.

I'll second that, I went last year and had a good time though I didn't feel very well the next day for some reason. :spudwhat:

I wasn't planning on it (it's a long way for one night for and old fella like me ) but how could I refuse such a gracious invitation? I'll get back to SD (in other words I need to check with the boss )

Those dates are the first weekend of the school holidays which could be a problem for me. I plan to at least go down, pay the money and just do the afternoon cruise and head home before becoming unsafe. Not as good as the overnighter but better than not going at all. Like scumdog I could provide some friday night beds and lead a pretty good round about route to get down to the rally the next day (especially if can handle a few gravel roads)

    KIWI RIDER article

I have had an article with photos printed in the latest Kiwi rider mag which has just hit the stands yesterday - it is on the first Catlins Coast trailride with some photos of the area around Kaka Point where this rally will be held.

This rally is getting close - any takers?

The date for the Pissed Penguin is getting close - Sept 23-24. Any Kb's coming down. At this stage I'm still planning on going down for the Sat ride and not staying the night, but there's an increasing chance I may be able to stay (just have to find a tent now).
Anyone needing a Friday night stopover let me know - especially if you fancy a rather backroads route to get down there on Sat morning (about 45mins ride from here if you go direct)
The weather can be a pain - spring time in the South and all that - or it could be wonderful. If it turns to shit during/after the sat. group cruise then I'm definitely coming home and can provide shelter for a few others.
There is some good Motel accomodation close to the site as well
