    Way up North!

    Any KBers up north?

Me & the Mrs are hanging out at Maonganui/Coopers Beach area. Brought bike up in van, so looking forward to going for a look-see around the place.

Anyone up here keen to hook up?

(I'm using the local LOTTO shop for 'net, so will check this tomorrow)

Hehehe I will be taking a group up there at the end of Oct.........

If you want to go for a good spin, you could head south from Coopers down to Kerikeri (dont forget to go out to Mautauri Bay - it's supposedly sealed now and bloody nice) then carry on south til you just about get to Puketona Junction (Paihia turnoff) there is road on your right called 'Old Bay Road' which will connect up to SH1 just before Ohaeawai. Turn right in Ohaeawai and follow that all the way til you go through the Maungamuka Gorge (bikers paradise, just corners for miles!) and then into Kaitaia. You can then keep heading north til you get to Awanui then turn right to take you back out to Mangonui/Coopers beach. It's one big loop that would probaly take you a couple of hours (depends on your riding style....)

You could also go up to the Lighthouse at Cape Reinga for a daytrip. The last 20kms is gravel but there is a nice cafe/takeaways at Waitiki landing if you dont fancy goin all the way up. Just a note - get fuel @ Houhora cause thats the last "reliable" fuel stop til the top (if you know what I mean...)

If there is anything else you would like to know, you can PM me........

BTW I'm originally from Kaitaia, hence the 'local' knowledge.......have fun.

    Nah there\'s no-one up there - they\'re all \"out there\" ...
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Best you be careful how you word things up here mate
I'm just down the road in Whangarei and usually keen for a blast...or cruise
Contact details are in my user notes if you'd like to go for a look-see. Got plenty of tracks with fantastic views and minimal tax collectors.
How long are you up for Mr E?

"will check this tomorrow" >> Tui ad

    sorry that never happened!
we ended up going for just the one ride, on the Friday. shot up to the Lighthouse (waited for the busses to clear out and took the bike down; got a couple of good shots under the signpost).
we also rode over to the dunes - not a bad sandpit to play in, that one!

hoping to head back up there in the summer, on the bike, and will def take a couple days and do some of those suggested roads!

    I'll attach some pix when i get a round-to-it
