Was talking to my daughter the other day on the long commute home...
She is taking a media paper and they had John Campbell as guest speaker and she found it really interesting. Particularly his view on the duality of selling papers / TV time vrs your personal views and integrity...
His highest rating show.... Interview with Nicki Watson.....
Lowest Rating .... The Prime Minister.
I guess his point is, has journalisim dumbed down the audience or is the audience getting what it wants?
Em reckoned it was utterly fascinating and she really learnt a heck of a lot about the business - shame most of the people doing the paper didn't agree - not compulsary so less than half turned up...
Must confess the media wouldn't bother writing stories about so-called celebrities if no one wanted to read them and the same goes for television I suppose. Not that I expect them to be, but most people aren't that impressed when they hear what I do for a living. Pisses me off sometimes because I don't spend my life muckraking and writing crap about people, but sometimes I just tell them I'm a proofreader - it's part of what I do and doesn't normally cause offence!
News used to be about things that happen but now a lot of it is created news by people who want to remain in the public eye. Bit like tv - if you don't like it, do something else - don't read it/watch it!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
