Black boxes in Cars

Due to the gernerally awful riding habits of pushbikes here in Japan, especially Osaka, the taxis there are fitting cameras to the cars that record the shift ( time the driver is in the car )
Its sort of a cross between the reversing cameras that cars are fitted with now ( great things and a security caera that takes a few frames a min/sec

So if the car is involved in an accident , its all on film. and the quality is good . you could even see the individual hairs on the guys head as he went through the windscreen ,, he walked away .....just in case you were wondering

The thing is, they are proving a success, So dont be suprised to see them fitted to new cars in the near future

I definitely think that if that ever became a possibility, it should be controlled. That way people could feel at ease knowing that as long as they don't crash or cause accidents, their privacy is assured. There is no way the people of any country will want everything to always be recorded and made available.

In a related matter, I would give just about anything to see video footage of what happened to me (my accident in June '05).

A possible implementation of that technology could be to integrate it with a collision detection system as well a R.F.I.D. That way, in the event of an accident, the colision detection system could activate (like a GPS unit and/or an Emergency Locator Beacon). Once that happened, that could activate/allow access to the "black-box" information. A VERY useful addition, would be having the R.F.I.D. collect the details of any people (vehicles) in the immediate vicinity (RFID stores your information and can collect information of other RFID devices it comes into contact with).

So, in the event of an accident, any vehicles involved would activate their colision detection systems. Then, when the accident is investigated, the black-box will provide crash analysis info, RFID will provide the details of the witnesses (OR of the offending vehicle(s) if the offender(s) caused the accident but never actually crashed themselves) and of those people identified as witnesses/suspects by RFID, court orders could order the release of their vehicle's black-box info

The one I was watching on Tv was like a small camera inside the rear view mirror looking through the front windscreen, and offered a clear view of the road ahead.
So that you could see for about 4 car lengths in front with clear vision.

Good! Then the cages won't have any excuse when they pull out in front of a biker causing an accident. "I didn't see him" will no longer be a viable explanation until the black box verifies it hehe.

No,it will show when a biker pulls out in front of a car without looking.You'll need side mounted cameras for that.....do you really want this much monitoring in your life?

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING.

But thing of the snooping you could do, you wont need to get a camera. Just park your car aimed at a doorway where the person you are watching will come out. Or a bedroom window......

was reading about something similar in the dom a few days ago....two teen drivers in the states were racing and crashed. unknown to the driver and his parents, there had been a black box type thing fitted. it revealed the recorded speed and being over 200 [cant remember if mph or kph] and the charge was updated to murder [one driver died]
so could be useful in cases like this.
