Open office or Da Word Help required

is there anyone out there who knows about open office or Microcock word .

What I want to do is put a back ground on a page ( format page inset background)
But I want to make it transparent. As it makes reading the tect on top difficult

I would like to use open office if poss

Yeah, seems to have no 'watermark' option, at least in 1.1.3.

Do you have the GIMP? http://www.gimp.org . Read the instructions on installing it for your platform if you don't.

You could either wind up the brightness (Layer->colours->Brightness/Contrast) or use a suitable effect on the image, the photocopy filter is a good one. ( Filters->artistic->photocopy).

yup have Gimp Thats a good suggestion ..Ill try that ..must admit havent really looked at that program

Admittedly it doesn't centre it very well and you need to repeat for each page (copy/paste)

I normally print on paper via Paint.Net or Gimp (watermark) then run it through again to chuck the text on (as above with limbimtimwim)

In Word, you insert the image into the header by doing this:
1) Choose menu option View->Header and Footer
2) Choose menu Insert->Picture->From File
3) Resize the image by dragging bootom right corner to desired size
4) Right click picture and select Format Pictutre..
5) In the Layout tab, select the Behind Text icon and also select Center for horiz. align
6) In Picture tab, choose Washout from Color dropdown box to make it transparent
7) Close the header toolbar to get back to main document

In Openoffice Writer....
1) Insert new image
2) Resize using bottom right corner to desired size
3) Right click image and choose Arrange->Send to Back
4) Right click image and choose Anchor->To Page
5) Right click image and choose Align-Base in middle
6) Right click image and choose Wrap->In Background
7) On picture toolbar choose either "Grayscale" or "Watermark" in drop down box
8) If you have grayscaled the image, set transparancy on the toolbar to 70% ish

Best way to do watermarks in Writer.....

Menu option Format->Page
Select Background tab
Choose "Image" from dropdown box and select image to import

The problem here is that you have no edit control over the background image, so you will need to use Openoffice Draw to edit a copy of your image and convert it to greyscale and resize it correctly before you insert it into the background.

Don't put bitmaps images in things like word documents if you can help it. See if the designer can give you a vector graphic ( an 'emf' or a 'svg' are examples) of your logo instead. Logos are great examples of when a vector graphic is more appropriate than a bitmap, like a jpeg. They are usually smaller (In file size) print much better and scale perfectly.
