Yep apparently there was a round ball group hug session a couple of weeks ago...![]()
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.

Yup I agree it was a great game of cricket..
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

How about that weather we've been having eh?
Great for riding!

I only saw some replay of the test.
20 tackles by Phil Waugh?
Most of his tackles were on Ritchie McCaw while "he" was tackling someone else!
I turned it off, couldn't be bothered watching a game with such all round bad refereeing, especially when you know the result.
The Aussies have really gone down in my estimation by the way they played the man so blatantly, it was very poor sportsmanship.John.
That's great news Alex!!
Unrepentant Tuqiri cops 5-match ban!
"Tuqiri will miss Australia's final Tri-Nations test against South Africa in three weeks' time, three games for New South Wales against the Brumbies, the Queensland Reds and the Perth Force next month and the opening game of Australia's Northern Hemisphere tour in November against the Welsh club Ospreys."
Pedant hat on.
I have an admission to make, one I've made made public here before - I am a rugby referee. I know - shame on me.
My take on the game:
A fkin disgrace. I was sickened by the Ozzie tactics to take McCaw out of the game. I was also shocked that no cards were produced as a result of the spear tackle of McCaw (although not in itself illegal if you read the rules, but can be classed as dangerous play if deemed severe enough).
My son has been turned off rugby after watching that match with me. A couple of weeks ago he watched me ref a local match, where a guy unfortnately broke his neck. That scared the crap out of him (and me), now be wants to play poof ball, where the biggest risk is getting kissed by your fellow team mates.
Rugby is a tough enough game as it is, without shit like this.
Rant over.
Well done the ABs.
As an aside the vido ref is considered the 4th official. And a letter of apology has been sent to McCaw by Tuqiri.

A public admission... I do not hate referess. Those of you that do this thankless task deserve a medal (whatever code you support). We in NZ (rugby-folk) are spoilt by the number of cameras that we have to view things from for most of the rugby that gets televised. It has created an army of armchair international level referees who are capable of picking up even the slightest nuances of the game from slow motion replays. I have refereed as part of my coursework for coaching and it's bloody hard. The game doesn't stop because of infractions commited and you (as a ref) have to make split second decisions sometimes that affect the outcome of games. The quality of refs generally has got better unfortunately I don't think Chris White has. I've seen him ref before and made the comment at kick off "I bet the first score will be a penalty in the AB's 22 very soon...
As far as the game went, I haven't seen so many players with so much blood on them before in a rugby game. How many times can a player (Rocky Elsom) be warned before being penalised - quite alot it seems. What is the point of a TV ref if he cannot adjudicate properly? We need more northern hemisphere refs down here and more of our guys up there. There has to be bgreater consistency in the way games are reffed...
that's my bit done.

No shame in that .. good on ya ..

all very well sending a letter of apology, however how would he feel if Richie ended up in Burwood Spinal Unit ... a letter would not have made it right ..
A 5 match ban ... will that impact enough ?? I wonder if he has watched the game & just realised how badly it could have all gone with one stupid moment in time ....
Does not take much in this world for one moment to change ones life forever ........
Have toKarma ... Justice catches up eventually !!
Nope - if it was up to me I'd ban him for a year. In particular because of his reaction to the crowd immediatley after the 'tackle'.
Thank you sir.
I'm forever hurling abuse at the TV when referees miss things, it's part of the fun. But when you're in the middle of it all, and there are bodies flying everywhere (often in your direct line of sight) it's inevitable that you'll miss something, especially when you've a split second decision to make. Oh how I'd love to experience the benefit of a video ref and replays.
My stock response to any spectators that give me shit is to tell them that if they believe they can do better then become a referee and prove it, or to shut the fuck up.

Of course it wouldn't make it right, the letter was probably only written on advice from his employers anyway. It was quite apparent that he showed no remorse when he did it by his reaction to the crowd and his continued rough play...and the AB's found it very difficult to contain him, he is as strong as an Ox!
You're right of course, but it is rugby and everyone who has played the game knows the risks, it is a full contact sport with injuries a dime a dozen, and dirty play often, especially when rival international teams come up against eachother!
It was interesting reading the article in the Harold (link in previous post) and taking note of McCaw's and Henry's perspectives:
"I've certainly felt that before (the spear tackle) and I guess there are going to be times when I feel it again," McCaw said.
All Blacks coach Graham Henry offered qualified support for Tuqiri. He felt Tuqiri did not aim to deliberately hurt McCaw.
