F1 Guru aims to build British MotoGP winner

F1 engine designer Mario Illien from Brixworth in Northamptonshire has built an 800cc V4 motorcycle which he aims to debut in the Portuguese round of the MotoGP series on 15 October. Illien built the engine, with the chassis being designed by Swiss engineer Eskil Suter, who has worked with Kawasaki.

Illien hopes to recruit MotoGP veterans Alex Barros and Max Biaggi to evaluate his bike in the last two rounds of this year's championship

Ilmor engines designed by Illien have already won two Formula One titles with McLaren-Mercedes and 11 Indianapolis 500 races. His ultimate aim is to launch a team for the 2007 season and feels he can challenge for the world title by 2010.

sounds like he has a bit of an ego. Will be interesting to see either way.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

No..... he means he wants to build a British BIKE that wins in MotoGP. The last one being a Norton back in 1971 or something (feel free everyone to come up with the correct date).

Don't suppose he thinks he can win the 2010 World Championship by only taking the single victory.
