2007 Kawasaki GPX 250R

Hello fellow motobike enthusiasts!

I've just got my learners, just got some money from the bank and now I'm shopping for a bike as we speak.

I've been through numerous shops here in Auckland, seaching for the right bike. Not an easy task since I've never ridden at all before.

I am quite looking forward to having a closer look at the re-release of the Kawasaki GPX 250R. I think it's a definite starting option for me.

Is anyone else who might be looking into getting their first bike keen on this model? I understand it will have the same engine in it as the ZZR - but will be going new for $6,995.00.

Are any other riders here still driving one of the older models?

General comments on the spec, capability, suitability for learners, etc. would be most welcome.

Seem to be OK for a 1980's bike.
Shit loads over here - went on a ride last Sunday and there were 5 of the fuckers! - all black and green....

Its not a new bike, its the same GPX250 that came out way back in 86, and its probably gonna cost you more to buy than it cost me to get my R6 with all bits on it.

General consensus is that it's a bloody ugly bike and i think it might have a 16'' wheel which would limit your tyre choice, etc...

I would rather think about second hand bikes, or the hyosung GT250 or GT250R which are not too bad...

Its only about $2000 more than a 17 year old CBR or ZXR that has been rolled bolled and ass holed !!

I have a old one that i still really reliable and can have fun in the twistys too!!

Good allround honest bikes 20yr design & a engine design thats been around 22yrs with only minor changes says something for the machine as a whole, still going strong after all that time whilst other bikes have come & gone.

I'm all for tried and tested. I don't yet have the nouse to be judging the complexities of bike selection.

If only they had decided to redesign the front light, indicators and can so it looks a little more 2006 than a 80's/90's bike.

ohhh ... do i hear a kind word for the mighty Hyosung ??? LOL ... the problem with the 250 market is really simple ... do you want a new bike or not ?? (your going to pay through the nose anyway).. if your after a new machine your options are limited ... I was on a zxr250 (loaner) before my gtr arrived ... and i'd have to say ... the gtr is a nicer ride ... the zxr is a huge thrill machine ... and i loved it .. but the gtr just feels better. .. i do miss the power of the zxr at 8 grand tho ... LOL

16" rims arent bad for a road bike. There is still plenty of rubber to choose from.

The worst bit for me is the super soft suspension. But i try to ride mine like a racer..... not really desighned for it!!
