    Vulcan 800 Exhaust Whistle

I have a 96 Kawasaki Vulcan 800A that has an exhaust whistle. Standard mufflers etc, so the exhaust note is quiet. The whistle is louder than the exhaust note, so apart from sounding stupid, I can't hear what the motor is actually doing at motorway speeds, so I have to look at the speedo all the time. Since the speedo is on the tank, I have to actually look down.

Seems to be coming out the rear of the pipes, have not noticed any leaks anywhere. Any idea what it might be, and how to get rid of the whistle without making the exhaust louder? I might get a metal rod and shove it up the exhaust, through one baffle in each pipe (there are two per pipe aparrently), and see what that does.

My other option is to get Vance & Hines Cruzers, but they are very loud (I hear).
