Pictures anyone??? Chaos at the wheelie kick-off

Well I saw a fair few cameras clicking away so where are the photos?
That mcnz crowd stuck cute little stickers all over our bikes when we weren't looking.
Not much on their site about the sprints. The pic. of some of the bikes lined up looks good. For those not there, there were about 45 bikes in all. More than what those pics let on.
And what's with the only wheelie photo being one of Tony's wobbly wibbly gixer. Man that bike had a serious case of a pissed out of their tree drunk trying to walk the straight line.
The wheelie session almost turned to custard. Talk about chaos in charge. All we heard was 'go out there somewhere and do your stuff ' Exactly where and in which direction and how do we know if the crowd are AWARE OF WHAT HAPPENING and being kept back was a mute point.
I went south following 2 others . We turn. I pop up the wheel and heading back towards the crowd as Fizzerman (I think, or Jay Lawrence) pulls out of the pits and wheelies towards me. Now this was getting interesting I think to myself. So he wants to play chicken! Alright mate game on. I'm in for a piece of that. Then I think (hope) we both realised how narrow that road was and what our combined collison speed was building too. Closing fast now. Shit-a brick, we're both still going for it. OK I can move a bit more left so long as he does the same. Bloody hell we were cutting it fine and discretion got the better of us both.
So we all pull up for a conference. This was the funny bit. About 5 of us. Anyone know which bit of road they want us to use?- lots of negative head shakes. Which direction ?- more head shakes. Do the crowd know and has anyone spotted a marshall?- more shakes. Hey says someone- I don't even think the roads closed. A good point a minute later as Jay pops it up a car facing him in the distance pulls out and moves towards him. %$#@ another abort. Another conference at the Hilton. This aint safe - lots of positive nods. Atleast we had an agreement.
Did those spectating realise how much we were shitting ourselves as we passed the crowd standing on both sides of the intersection, no barriers holding anyone and the kiddies back. Then just as you reach the point of no return people poke their heads out behind the person in front to get a better view, just like those people on the other side are doing. It was like watching a doorway slowly closing as you try and race through it.
Caught up in the moment with the others and the crowd watching I carried on but later on I had some serious guilt attacks that I crossed the line of public safety. We could all be discussing the worse case outcome today. Couple of us had a chat to Daryl afterwards and he was equally upset how it started, but once he swung the marshalls into position he was OK with it all.
As Tony wobbled towards us at 200kph+ on the back wheel we were thinking of bailing into the bushes. Bugger me his bike had a bad case of speed wobbles. Tony said it was a bitch to wheelie. If it looked bad during the wheelie he said it was worse after the landing.

    Big Thanks to Deano

I reckon the real star of this event was actually Deano. I have awarded him (my first ever) Rep and want to say Full Credit to Deano for all the work he has done and continues to do to keep these events alive. From what I can see Deano has and is putting a lot of time and effort into helping to keep these events going, and to make them even better. I don't know the details of how all this came about but I suspect that the Sprint last weekend might not have taken place at all if Deano had not got involved.

Thats probably a fair comment MD. I probably could have got people to stand back but Im not much of a leader...not sure I would have had much effect on the wheelie struck punters either.

We are all born leaders. The problem is that no one has been born to follow!
Don't get me wrong I'm not having a moan. It's just that the riders couldn't tell what the story was at the roadside. May have seemed perfectly fine to those at the roadside. Another funny bit was when we were all gathered 300m south and Daryl stands out in the distance waving his arms frantically up and down at us. We all reply with our arms stretched out in puzzlement? One of us says.. is he waving us to go for it? Or is that the don't go for it wave? Lets go for it and find out ..

I had a CB radio and there were marshals down at the bottom end waiting for you guys and basically said 'ahhh....guys, theyre stopping halfway, oh well...just control the traffic'. I know there were cars on the road so not sure what happened there.

Yeah, Tonys bike looked like an absolute ass to wheelie....or to keep in a straight line at least!
I had a ball in the wheelie session, found balance point every time, was nice and smooth, even landed nice and soft most times too.
