    Three cheers for Aussies!
"People are stupid ... almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true ... they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so all are easier to fool." -- Wizard's First Rule

"We are happy with our culture and have no desire to
change, and we really don't care how you did things
where you came from. By all means keep your culture
but do not force it on others."

Isn't that what the abbos said when Cptn Cook and co sailed in?

    ;-)

But fair enough... The seperation of the church and the state is a basic fundemental of 'our' society..... It's not just the muslims that need to remember that, Pastor, sorry, bishop brian should as well...

And probably what normal Muslims have been saying since the Crusades.

own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over
two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by

I think right about here is where it turns from "common sense" bullshit to just plain fundy bullshit.

Two sides to the fundamental sword master banks.
Belief, like sexuality, cannot be divorced from the human psyche.
To attempt to homologate all differences of peoples, would be to prevent people from being people.
Hence we are entitled to think of it as fundy bullshit, but were the shoe to be on another foot, I believe we would be crying as long and as loud.

One persons fundamentalist, is simply anothers pillar of society.

Accepting differences unquestioningly (a leftist traight) is not neccesarily contributing to humanity, nor is it conducive to living and letting live.

Not everyones mind works in such a fashion.

My only other thought, Words from politicians can be, and all to often are, far too cheap. For a nations sentiment to be changed, some action must follow, and I am not suggesting turfing anyone with a different skin tone down the road, however, though the sentiment has been (wisely IMO) expressed, action is not guaranteed to follow.

What started this whole "anti-Muslim" sentiment here was a series of violent gang rapes in Cronulla by Lebanese men on Australian women.

Following their conviction and sentencing, Lebanese men decided to beat up all the white surf lifesavers in Cronulla Beach, as it wasn't "their beach" and they (the lifesavers) "didn't belong in Cronulla". Then the riots followed.

I don't know how much of this is reported in the NZ Press, but that's what's happenning here. Bashir getting let-off for the Bali bombings hasn't helped either.

Ohhh, don't get me started on Bashir...
Again, the fundamentalist filter comes out...
To his people (and apparently his countries judiciary) He is an upstanding pillar of society.

Don't get me wrong, I severely dislike Muslims as well. Just like I severely dislike Christians. No unconditional acceptance here, I think they're all bloody bonkers.

And that letter is just playing shy on the message of "If you don't like our God, piss off".

See the problem with the argument though?
It assumes a rational middle ground, which clearly cannot exist, just as rational argument, and all the forces of science will not likely prove or disprove any other religious disposition.

We assume our own viewpoint to be some moral high ground, for whatever reason, but it simply cannot be so.

Mankinds collective understanding of "the facts", in any debate, is shaky by itself, so the likelihood of our personal version of the facts being more solid is extremely slim.

Goes for all, self included. There will be an abjective "Right" but we won't be coming to grips with it in a hurry.

And you can trace that back to the Wanker of a Police Head, who wouldn't act against the Lebanese gangs when they moved in to the area in the 90's - they would scream - prejudice!racism! and he backed off so fast it was embarrassing.
Now, Cronulla is effectively under the Lebanese "mafia" umbrella - they think they own the place and effectively do.And, as usual, the second you mention the word "Lebanese", they all scream prejudice, racism - you name it, and the PC f**king powers that be, fall over themselves not to "offend " any of them.
    Its f**cking pathetic!

it's all about votes. Those PC politicians love their cushy jobs, and I bet none of them live in Cronulla. Redfern maybe, but not Cronulla.

It's really quiet where I live, close to Morisset, but mind you, there's suddenly been an influx of Kiwis , I wonder why?? Must be the low rent, and crazy wages - eg. $20/hr weekdays for a storemen.

The markets haven't turned it into a metropolis yet?
I moved to Auckland from Wangi a while ago.
