Oh yea, well done GL. Good on ya for comming out and playing with us. You show great potental, and with a little guidence i'm sure you'll go far.
Might want to look at some knee protection soon though (assuming you had non under those jeans)... especially when getting in to the Riverbed senario. Rocks + knees = pain. Rocks+knees+knee guards=lol.

Not me..no... I wasn't late... surely not, there were still the last 4 or 5 bikes still pulling out when i arrived

I would have been if not for the wifes school reunion in Nelson and the wrong licence for the bike (not the other way round aye

). Got back at 8 on Mon night and went straight to TA's to get the 250 so could sit the F test this morning.

Was pissing down for the full 45 mins so I'm now a little wet under the arms (WTF???). The tester knew an old boss from my 6 months at Transit so almost spent more time talking about that than doing the test. Outcome was positive though so I'm now ready to rumble with the DR650.

Fingers crossed dont need to deliver more campers to NN next weekend so we can go for a spin. Any ideas anybody? Keen to clock up some KM's.

P.S. Sorry to hijack the thread - Looks like the ride had some interesting parts but sounds like long straight boaring gravel roads to though. Oh and well done GL.

Highlights
Watching the on the BMW get his timing so wrong as the big irrigation sprinkler thing tracked him perfectly as we rode down the track it was watering. Man those things can pump out the water. I stayed dry this time.

What it's not like you to miss out on a drenching!

Glad you all had a good ride, maybe I'll get to go next time if I'm not working again.

No, not quite. When I got home nobody was there and I didn't have my keys, so what is guy to do? Hose down the bike, oh dear. At least I didn't wash (properly), dry and wax.

Been a while coming but here goes...

This wasn't just my first group ride it was my first off-road (gravel, dirt, bog, etc) ride. Hense I was a bit nervous, as last thing I wanted to do was spoil anyone elses day.

Firstly thanks to the KB crew for all the advice throughout the day, with a special thanks to Mr Sensible for letting me tag along behind you for so long, what you do with that monster of a bemmer and where you take it impresses the hell out of me.

Day started off outside Caterbury Rides, a quick scoot over to the port hills then up the first dirt track. A little nervous but made it up without too much trouble. Over the port hills tarmac section and had a bit of a front end slide leaning going over a cattle crossing. Thankfully managed to save it and ended up at the first gravel section took it slow and easy, got through with only being scared by the deep gravel section.

By lunch time had been though a lot of open roading, quite a bit of gravel, some dirt, mud, and a river bed. Managed to only fall off once (low speed in a muddy 4wd rut). By the end of the day my confidence had grown greatly, learnt a lot, got more comfortable on gravel, had some great fun in the waimak after the organised ride (til I got lost, lesson learnt).

Can't wait for the next ride. Didn't take many photos (too busy riding) but I'll resize and post what I took when I get a chance.

No worries. The GS is quite a versatile machine, surprises me that it's quite happy going where I take it. Having said that I'm still a learner.

I didn't see much of you on the actual ride, only at the stops, but the big GS's that I did see were going real well, they didn't seem to be having any problems getting through any of the rougher stuff relatively quickly, and the HP2 was going REAL well, and it wasn't just spitting out a few stones etc, but was leaving a real rooster tail of gravel in it's wake.

DVD's edit is finished, am burning some copys now.
Trying to upload the 4 minute short to youtube and a 18Mb DivX version to another server but keep getting connection resets or something. My Yahoo messenger and/or MSN messenger also disconnect/reconect at the same time.
Starting to peeve me off.
