I while back I asked Shaun to import me a GSXR frontend for my bike. Many people have done the conversion and all the feedback has been good. Well it took a bit longer than expected but the last round of the Vic club series I had all but the brake system delivered. Shauns had all the hassle sourcing the parts and I've just had to be patient. Well the brakes still hadn't arrived so Shaun got a mate in Auckland to send me some down. Didn't realise till later when I looked at the bottom of the box that TwoSmoker was responsible (thanks heaps). I was now almost ready to rock and roll.
Had a few issues to get over and turned up at the track shortly after 9am and finished making temporary steering lock stops so I didn't wreck my fairings of radiator if I had an off. Went out for the first session on cold tyres just to bed in the brakes and get a feel for the new front end. Things felt good with bumps that ussually unsettled my bike being soaked up. The brakes where also great . I still have standard brakelines but have to get used to more braking power and be a little careful not to dab the brakes to hard as the effort required is alot less than before.
I still have the standard SV shock in the back and really need to get that up to scratch now. Pretty sure I'm lapping quite a bit faster than I used to as the SV thats my benchmark isn't dissappearing as fast as it used to.
Was a great day. Wasn't expecting alot of bikes (actually was worried I might be the only bike there). Andrew from the UK turned up on a recently purchased TZ250, Mitch was there getting dialed in on her 400, One other SV650, and some lanky thin guy on a black Kawasaki. All Vic Club racers.
Sessions were 1/2 hour ones and no one did the last session as we had all had plenty of riding. Next ride is Taupo on the 8th to get a run on the track before the Vic Club round there on the 14th of October.
Heres a pic of the SV from yesterday. The GSVR decals were made by another talented KBer called MSTRS whom I would highly recommend if you want any graphics done. Probably not worth altering the motor from standard until the rules get sorted but as it is it's very cheap to maintain and run (unless you fall off).
