NEW Royal Enfield 500 Single

Well hooked up with a very good freind on Saturday after a quick ride out to Wanga with some great riders & he sells the New Royal Enfeilds out of his bussiness which is Restoring old BSA Singles , Twins , Triumphs , Harleys , Matchless ETC & anything old or new
Been electric start & kick I thought pushing the starter would be a nice change as these new bikes run Japanese electrics in them so no worrys about nothing happening when you try starting it , It fired straight into life & sat there just ticking over at what seemed about 200rpm very kool , Put it into 1st gear which didn't even make a sound at all on the new 5 speed box .Clutch out & off I went with that sound of a big single through a open muffler Nice . The ride was very plush & controls are all at a great reach as was the Bars . Seat was mint & double leading front brake worked really well as did the rear . Cornering was very stable & predictable with excellent feed back from the whole bike . The bike sat on 120ks with out a worry & Brian says they will do 140ks just as well , & don't strain getting there like some of these older stlye bikes out there . So you can pass cars on the open road with out worrying about not been able to do Highway speeds ,These bikes come in about 4 different models with Lean burn motors for even better power & fuel savings . Yeah, I know the importers up here in Albany. Been in a few times to peruse them. Haven't been in for a little while, so not seen the new motor yet, might pop in tomorrow and catch up.

I'd love one, as I lusted after the AJS/Matchless 500's as a school kid, though only managed a B31 350 when I did finally get a bike. But cannot justify one at the mo. Unless I get a real good price for the GSX-F...

That style of riding would probably suit these ol' bones these days, but I do confess to getting a buzz out of the 'F'.

Anyway on the back of the fastest Indian , Dan, and a Phil are taking a Enfield Streamliner to bonniville next year , to try for the record ( cant remember which class)

My own one has a bit of work done , Kibble white valve gear , carrillo rod , stock cams rephased, and 8 to 1 piston, and I balanced the crank at 63/64 cant remember now ...

BUT ,,it is going forward and backwards,,,,the Engine is In , but the front end came off , ,,I just cant decide HOW its going to look

I have an old miller Mag ...dot dot dot ...May use it ...not sure ....

Frank says "Hi", didn't see the new Electra as it was up at Trevor's place. Took a couple pics while I was there. Franks own blue Classic, reckons he cruises easy at 110-115km/h. Their getting another container in and can get the older CLassic with the 5-speed but sans electric start which is my pick of them, as well as the leccy start model.

The Bonnie was in for servicing, it's a '73 650.

They're also bringing in a couple or more of the 465cc diesels! Reckon they'd be the ultimate commuter for NZ! Going to check them out when they arrive here!

My son in law has a 1953 original British model 500cc single and he just loves the thing. It's in good condition too.
It ticks over really well and he takes it to the Brass Monkey via the Dansey Pass every year. Snow, ice and mud, no problem!
It would be interesting to see it sitting beside the new models. Cheers John.
