    Another senseless death

Just heard that a pedestrian was killed walking along the Napier-Hastings expressway. What makes this incident particularly sad is that the driver of the truck that hit him stopped and was attempting to jack up his vehicle as the guy was trapped underneath it - and was hit by another vehicle and also killed.

What's the bet the guy he hit was drunk? This is at least the second or third time someone drunk has been bowled along this stretch of road. Sad to think he did the right thing and stopped to help and has now lost his life because of it.

It is sad, I heard that the driver was hit by several passing vehicles. There is a lesson in here though - in situations like this, ALWAYS make sure that you are safe before attempting to help someone else. People like Speedie have said that on here in the past, and if you do a first aid course they too will drum it into you. Turning one injury or fatality into two does nothing to help the situation.

That is awful. Never heard a thing & that road is only a spit from us.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I have heard that the driver may have been drinking... dunno about the pedestrian, but wouldn't surprise me either...

They showed a truck jacked up last night on tv but it sounds like the driver was hit by vehicles as he tried to get to the pedestrian. Either way, very sad. Unusual for a drunk driver to stop at the scene of an accident if that was the case, but they did say something about the guy being stuck under the truck so he may not have had much choice.

I suppose everything but trying to help flies out of your mind in situations like this, but you're all correct - make sure you are safe and not putting your own life at risk when trying to help someone else.

I think the most prudent advice would be to not run anyone over.
