Over the last couple of days I've been asking around, and thought it would be a good idea to organise a group ride from the north island, down to Christchurch over labour weekend.
Because it would be too rushed to do in the three days of the weekend, I'm proposing taking a day (Friday) off extra (plenty of notice), or even two days extra (Friday and Tuesday) and staying two nights in Christchurch.
I propose that the Auckland crew ride to Rotorua after work Thursday, stay here the night (I still need to find somewhere for youse to stay). Get up first thing friday morning and ride over the Rotomas, then to Opotiki, through the Waioeka gorge to Gisborne, then down the coast to Napier to meet up with the Hawkes Bay lot. From there we'd take a guided trip to Wellington and camp there the night. Catching the 0830 ferry with the Welly crew ($110 approx) would give us a bit of time to wake up, and we'd be in Picton in time to have lunch and meet our escorts for the trip to Christchurch.
What I want to know is how many people would be interested in coming along, and whether you'd like to do the trip in four days return, or five
EDIT1: It has been suggested that we make a trip over to Greymouth to watch the street racing while we're there. I'm keen for that, and would like to know of any others who are too
