I thought the intention was that it was a cruisy, night ride Doug?

Newbies aren't babies...they can work it out for themselves...they don't need their hands held.

Hmmm it's a balancing thing isn't it. Skels, a LOT of newbies express fear and trepidation about coming out on group rides because they fear holding everyone up or being left behind. So I'm all for mentoring and sheparding.

Wasps point was about getting home after 10 I think ... and that's well made. However I don't agree that Carterton is not a good idea for the first TCWNR of the year. It's a bit of an event, an occasion, a celebration. In fact we should sacrifice virgins at the top of the takas as the sun goes down.

Normally we don't go that far and from my reading of the posts on the pizza matter so far, it doesn't seem that anyone is suggesting it as a regular thing.

Sure, thats what the 'cruisy' aspect addresses. I've never been one for policy making when it comes to riding a bike.

are you hinting that we should slick "your corner" so the newbies come off?! (joking.......)

but im not about to stuff my face if its putting newbies in a tight spot - when i started riding the people i rode with didnt do this to me so i wont do it to anyone

There is nothing cruisier that pizza and a coke so my vote is to start it off with a bang. I believe we are all adults though most of us don't act like em!

If I can make it, and if there are some newer riders there that don't want to go that far, I am happy to forgo Pizza to hang with them for the night to make sure they are ok.

FFS, they're going to be 'ok' Nigel ...its not like new riders are ducklings that we have to protect. Be there to offer advice, make sure everyone knows where we are going etc. Sometimes you can molly-coddle (?) people too much I reckon.

Not everyone is as confident in a new, group situation as you seem to think.

I rode in Wellington for a couple of years without going over 'the hill'. Yes it's just a hill, just a road..... but some people need support to make the next step in their riding.

It's also about giving something back to the riding community.

I am sorry Skelster .. but that attitude sucks .. I think that either you have been riding a while or started riding when your balls told you your were invincible ... it is not about molly-coddling people ... its about building their confidence ... and this is done over time .... does everyone need to be comfortable going over the Rimis ... no ... is everyone ... no ... do people need to realise the world is bigger than them .. and that building confidence is a good thing ... maybe.

For those who don't realise what the ride is about ...

Yes folks it's on again this Wednesday - Weather permitting.
Departing 6:30 at the southern end of Avalon park by the duck/elephant pond.
(Turn off the Hutt motorway and onto the Kennedy Good bridge, the carpark is 100metres past the end of the bridge, on your left hand side)

First ride for the season: Wednesday 13th September, 2006.

Please Note: This ride is arranged in order to provide a local social riding event for the local KB riders that are riding the smaller CC bikes and that generally prefer slower paced rides.
This event works well by having the group remain as a group when in transit and by travelling at predominantly road legal speeds.
All KB riders and friends are welcome to attend this ride. However, should you struggle to maintain the groups easy going pace, we ask that you be considerate and stick with it for this is a learner/introductory riders group event.

These rides generally consist of a group ride with a purpose - A pitstop at a pub! Pub destinations previously ranged from Featherston, Wellington city, Karori, Trentham, Paremata and Paekakariki.

All first timers are welcome. So feel free to tag along for an enjoyable social event.

Destination will be determined by the group on the day.
If the weather looks dodgey on any given Wednesday, tune in to the site for the group decision of do or die. See you there!

If you knew me well enough, or at all, you would know that I'm not cocky, am quite careful about my riding. I went over the hill about two weeks after starting to ride (2 years ago actually). Didn't think I was invincible and it wasn't a big deal cause a big deal wasn't made of it.

    Yeah anyway...
