Clutch Lever

Hi,

I am trying to find out the best option for my CB900 Clutch lever.
The problem is that it is quite away out from the grip and i am rolling my wrist over to hold it in, which is causing me problems.

I have looked at it and it out there because of the electric connection for when you are in gear and the stand is up so it make the bracket quite big.

What a wanna know is there a cluch bracket/lever that woul eleminate the over streching?

I had thought about putting somthing in the gap where cable runs and then setting the cable tightness to bring it closer but i dont know how that would work.

You could replace the lever and perch with another (short or open circuit the switch as necessary to bypass that feature.)

You could try a different lever, and adjust the cable to suit where you would like the clutch to take up.

I had to make some levers for my kid's ZXR because her hands are tiny. She was also complaining bitterly about cramps and an awkward grip position - same problem as yours by the sounds of things. Although the levers are adjustable, it still wasn't enough, and adjusting the cable nuts isn't an option. I copied Kawasaki's original design to keep the functional dimensions the same, but reprofiled the finger bars so that they were closer to the grip when free but parallel to the grip when pulled. The switches, mounts and other bits were left unchanged, so it was purely the levers that I replaced. I made the parts using 6061 Aluminium, laser cut then machined, hand finished and powdercoated. Works a treat, and she's no longer uncomfortable.

Sadly, yes. It worked out at almost $180 for the pair, but the benefits far outweigh the cost. I have a CAD business and I send things that I design out to be manufactured - as I did with this job. If I was trying to cut costs, I could've saved a handful of money by simply marking the revised profiles onto a couple of bits of aluminium, cutting them out on a bandsaw and doing the finishing myself. The powdercoating was a luxury as the levers could've simply been polished.

And now for the bodgy alternative.....
Heat the levers with a gas torch (gently, aluminium melts @ 400 degrees) and bend to a suitable position. You may have to have a couple of goes at it to achieve an ideal position (I would advise practicing on a couple of levers ex wreckers first).
Note, take them off the bike first.

Cheers for the tips, I love spending money on the bike but the Girlfriend dosent but i pleasently reminder her that her bike sits in the room and is more for display than riding and she sees my point...I wish.

I like the idea of the two finger grab, my brake is alrady like that it became bent after the fall on the takas a few weeks ago and has improved it 10 fold. I reckon the levers are of a low quality anyway so upgraded to something more suitable for my needs is spot on

Thanks for the sites and feedback on the shorty Pazzo gear. Wish I'd known about them before I spent ages custom building my own. Ah, bugger!
