Sealed shock options....

Hi all,

The rear shock on my VTR250 is fairly soft and provides bugger all rebound damping so it looks like I'm up for a replacement and maybe a spring as well. Problem is that it's a sealed unit (god bless you Honda) and a replacement is around $650. I've tried wreckers but nobody seems to be crashing their VTRs (I shoulda got a ZXR or CBRR, plenty of them crashed).

So what would my options be in the way of reconditioned units or adjustable shocks that won't be hella more expensive than the Honda part?

Save your money for when you get a larger bike. I'm assuming you're on a learners and will get a bigger bike the day you get your full.

Nah mate, I've had the full for almost 20 years, but have a nervous wife.

$650 for what type of replacement. You'd normally look at around $1200-1500 for an aftermarket shock.

I wonder if there is another stock Honda shock that fits as an upgrade,kind of like the GSXR shock being fitted to SV650's... There might be a VTR250 website out there somewhere with the needed info.

Honda original....problem is I'm a fat c**t, so it's like I'm riding 2-up all the time.

My mate had same prob with his zxr shock and, i'm pretty sure, it was a sealed unit too. A bike shop said they could cut it open fix it and weld it back together. C if someone can do that for ya

Sounds like ya need an after-marrage fitting for ya wife, LOL. Then ya can get a bigger bike. Tell her that a bigger bike will be safer, especially for romantic 2-up rides.

Ill second what What said.
As an alternative go see a freindly wrecker and see if a rear shock from another model fits. My thought goes to CBR600 or possibly VFR400
