I believe that a cursory examination of the literary content of this forum validates my claim that it 'is used' in such a manner.

I wouldn't presume to dictate grammar and syntax... after all, it's all about what you *meant* to say, right? Make up your own personal Ebonics and go to town.

I remember years back in school me and a couple mates went and did our entrance exams for OCS (well I was going Navy, the other 2 going Air Force)...scraped in on engineering and kicked butt on the rest (sorry, that isn't helping you!)...after all that (and 2 interviews later): well, we say the minimum age is 16, but that just doesn't happen anymore. Come back in a couple of years if you're still serious. Of course, I was 16, and a few years later I wasn't serious anymore...Of course if I did them again, I think I'd struggle with maths and kick butt on engineering. Seems to be a function of what you're getting practise in at the time.

As for assistance on that part of the exam, practise, practise, practise. If you're not well read of the classics, get well read. If you don't write much, then start. Take a pedantic approach to your spelling and grammar - this will ingrain the required 'principles' into your thought patterns.

Of course, some people may disagree with this, and it doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Force yourself to write eloquently for everything - Don't Learn Sk8r Boi's Bad Habbits, They Won't Help You.

Have you always had trouble with your spelling Indy? If so, you would probably have to invest some time and go over the fundamental principles of how to spell in English - I think there are some good sources on the internet or at the library.

It's never too late to learn something new or improve something old I say!

    Hope you pass next time.

I've always had problems with my spelling
I might try and play "spellbound" lol

Not only do you have to spell good, you have to be a Thesaurus

BTW - I assume you are referring to what they used to call the 'sounds' test, ie they put in the word 'UPRIGHT' in the left column, then you put 'ERECT' in the right? I understand that one trips a lot of people up. This tests vocab, but spelling was essential for the answers to be marked correct, and to add to the difficulty it was a 'must pass' exam. One of my mates failed that one as well.

Best you get some crosswords, some reading, and most libraries have a section on how to spell.

forget texting... it kills any semblance of correct spelling or grammar. read books. do cryptic/normal crosswords - good for word association. play scrabble - the best board game ever made . associate with others who can help you get better, usually those who are better at it than yourself. learn how to spell die-a-reer. it teaches you that nothing in this language is how it looks

    Not quite spelling

    But useful nonetheless

The above post should give some of you 733t posters an idea of why some of us are a little perplexed at the actual meaning being portrayed.

    Cheers
