    Puke Update

Just recieved following email from the AMCC

    Hi all

    Pukekohe Park Circuit Update

This email is to update you all on the status of motorcycling at Pukekohe Park Circuit currently.

Earlier this year, officials of the Auckland Motorcycle Cub became aware of the installation of 72 metres of armco along the grass area from pit road. The armco was installed as a requirement by the FIA to enable Pukekohe Park to retain Grade 2 status so that they could continue to host the V8s, both New Zealand and Australian V8s.

The placement was considered to be a hazard for motorcycle racing and after consultation with Motorcycling New Zealand officials, the decision was made to suspend motorcycle racing at Pukekohe Park. Permits are currently not being issued by Motorcycling New Zealand for Pukekohe Park until further notice.

After much consultation involving all interested parties, a plan has been formulated to reduce the hazards of the armco for motorcyclists and car racers. This plan involves realigning a section of the circuit. Unfortunately due to heavy track bookings and the cost of the work, Pukekohe Park management are unable to undertake this work until the Christmas-New Year period.

Initially, we were optimistic that the work might proceed earlier, enabling us to start the Club Championships in October. This is not the case. Although organisation of the 2006/07 Protecta Insurance Club Championship has already started, we have had to cancel the October meeting.

If circumstances change, we will inform you. Worse case scenario is that there will be no racing at Pukekohe Park Circuit until the New Year. If this happens, we will try to organise, at the very least, a practice day prior to the Pukekohe round of the New Zealand Superbike Championship.

We regret not being able to proceed with race meetings at Pukekohe Park as planned, but in the end rider safety - your safety is important to us!

    Thank you

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Hopefully everyone ventures up for nationals and it is called off as we are unloading the vans! or they are still sealing the track on practice day like last year, that was a hoot!

Its a bit of a piss off, but it does mean the new tracks (taupo, hampton downs) will get all the motorcycling and the racing will be better for it.
I have to admit now that I have to "travel" to watch racing I have a better appreciation of the efforts you lot south of here have had to make to get to Puke.
(did I type that out loud...appreciation of something not Jaffa)

    Poor old Pukeboringkohe
Sux for the AK championship though, I was planning on doing that race.
I pray they have some rounds at Taupo!
On that subject it is a absolute CRIME that there is not a national round at Taupo, who do we lynch for that cock up?

To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
