Definitely not going.
A heap of youngsters invited by the organisers to ride in a special F5 class put on for BOB. Why? Cos after months of planning, we get 30 hours notice via e-mail of safety concerns requiring their exclusion.
Apparently there will be some fast and competitive 50's coming, and no one wants the tragic responsibility of running over a young kid. Fair enough, but have these riders never heard of rule 6.10?
So if you're young and not too fast or confident, don't go. You're not welcome.
If you're older and looked forward to see the young future of the sport on display, sorry, you won't see it on Sunday. Suggest you come out next Saturday to the Motorcycling Canterbury meeting at Ruapuna.
If you're one of those not interested in making an effort to support young people in your support, be prepared to watch it rot away and die

You were emailed some time ago and told that any of the young guys that are eligible to race buckets and have eligible bikes are welcome to attend any of our meetings
rule 6.10 When over taking, the onus is on the over taking competitor to over take without causing interference to the overtaken competitor.
You should be the last person to spout of about that rule after running into me in a overtaking move and causing me to crash at Levels at a meeting a couple of years back and it was also you that caused Neil Batchelor to crash after running into him also while trying to pass at a meeting at Levels
And perhaps you are not aware of rules concerning the "young Junior road race riders"
Rule 15-17-3-4 Circuits- All racing for this class will be conducted on circuits with a maximum average speed of 40kmph and a maximum speed of 60kph. Circuits will be generally those utilised by go-karts, closed industrial type car parks. Racing for the class is specifically prohibited from Pukekohe Raceway, Centenial Park, Manfield, Ruapuna, Levels and Teretonga in their normal configuration. If the above circuits can safely modified or altered to accommodate the 40kph average and the 60kph maximum speed to the stewards satisfaction then these circuits may be used.
Rule 15-18-1 Riders over 10 years and under 13 years can only race against riders within this age.
Perhaps you are hard of hearing, so for your benefit I will repeat what has already been told to you on more than one occasion
any of the young guys (13 and above) that are eligible to race buckets and have eligible bikes are welcome to attend any of our meetings

Thats VERY incorect Pete.
Under 13yr olds were NEVER invited to the BOB the reason is MNZ rules NOT the Bucket Clubs rules DONT allow it.
Please by all means allow the over 13yr olds to come and race
Now you well know this, if not I think you should flag your MNZ steward thing cos ya not going to be very good at it![]()
cheers DD

Pete the thing is, I reckon that the fact that you are in charge of these young guys means you know all the rules… however you seem to be only choosing to quote the ones that suit your argument rather than being factual. As I have said once before today, I respect what you are doing for these young guys, I think its great… but the way you are going about it makes you loose a lot of credibility.
Peter, I believe in what youre doing and I believe that it will have huge benifits for road racing in New Zealand. Some of the young guys and girls coming through the SportzFotoz Junior series already have an amazing amount of talent. However, there are risks involved in allowing young children to compete with adults, and because of this there are rules as mentioned above, which prevent young kids from being placed in a situation for which most of them aren't ready to cope with.
This was part of my submission to the Bucket Club on this issue:
Some people are aware that at an earlier round of the Bears Winter Series, there was a young fella circulating with a bib on during the bucket races. At the left hander that links the B track with the main track (where we turn off to go back to the pits), I was just about to go around the outside of this kid, who was hugging the inside of the corner, when he VERY abruptly decided to head into the pits at the very last possible moment. I came very very close to hitting him, and the rider behind me nearly hit us both. I had been keeping an eye on him as I approched and he gave no indication that he wanted to exit the track. He was positioned on the inside of the track, NOT the outside where he should have been if he wanted to exit. I mentioned this to Andy Mac, who went to talk to the kid concerned. All the kid said was "i was running out of fuel". He didn't seem to understand how dangerous his actions were.
I can't stress enough just how close I came to hitting him.
This is "The Battle of the Buckets", with top riders from around the country arriving to take part in what will be full on racing. This is not the right meeting to have inexperienced kids learning their race craft. People who have gone to the time and expense of preparing their bikes and getting to Chch for this meeting will NOT be happy if there are under thirteens circulating at under 60ks.
My daughter telling me like it is:"There is an old man in your face daddy!"
quite frankly Pete I am astounded at your attitude. The bucket guys have looked into having the younger riders there, against the rules I might add and all you can do is insult them in emails to outside people.
Yes I have read your emails to various people, including the one today. Its a shame that others haven't, as I am astounded that some one who puts themself forward as a mentor can act in such a childish fashion.
It has been said by the others as to why the young riders cant race so i wont repeat it. Blaming the bucket guys for something that they cannot do anything about is pathetic. YOU cocked up by not confirming that it was okay for them to race at the BOB, LIVE WITH THAT! Dont blame someone else for it.
I have not raced much yet but i am loving it! I have never felt worried about the fast guys passing me, in fact I have no qualms about them at all cos they DO know what they are doing. Its the not so confident ones i will give a wide berth to...i can understand their nervousness, but i guess at least i have years of experience of morons on the road passing me stupidly that i dont flinch when i get passed. The younger ones dont have that and that can lead to mistakes happening... I totally agree with the MNZ rules about under 13s. they need to build up experience before being subject to lots of racers around them.
As had been said before Buckets are a class of racers who do take their racing seriously...they may not ride R1s and GSXRs but thats does not make them 2nd rate riders either. In fact watching someone like TonyB control that mongrel of his is damn encouraging to me![]()

This was todays email that was cc to me and meant for Thunderbike Nelson.
[Apparently some FAST and SERIOUS people will be there
and they're worried they'll take out the younger ones. It's all ego /
selfish bullshit. I give up with BEARS / Buckets.
A plan for you:
1) Stick to M/C Canty meetings where I get some support
2) Vent your frustration to the Buckets President who made
the promise]
Yes we are fast.. more than twice the speed that under 13's are restricted too
Fucking right we are worried... what were you expecting?
Ego and selfish bullshit huh? sorry you see it like that, take a look at your self
I am more than happy to have Ian at thunderbike vent his frustration at me... I will simply set him correct on a few things, and I never made any promises... in fact I have NEVER even spoken to you on this subject of the BOB
Pete, you bringing this up on KB will get some good reactions, reactions that you may not be happy to hear... you started it.
cheers DD

I think its been said (and very well too). Pete you do an amazing job with the young racers of tomorrow and I commend you for giving your time freely to advance the sport we all love.
As one of the organisers of BOB I feel let down that you have put the blaim on us that the 11-12 yr olds can not race, when all we are doing is protecting "THE SPORT" and adhearing to what MNZ has ruled. The race permit will not let this age group ride at this meeting.
Pete please stop twisting the truth to make us look like the bad guys. You were sent an email several weeks ago outlining our concerns and you have obviously choosen to ignore this.
I hope this will not cast a shadow over the event which several guys have put alot of effort into getting it off the ground.

hey guys... luke and i are almost there, we are at "Stev k's " place and we are all packed and ready to kick your bitching butts![]()

so lock up ya mouths... it's too late
luke will give ya the "learn"
and i will be the one to teach ya all how to .... fall off with style.
what a ride so far!!!!
The battle of the bucket committee is not disallowing younger than 13 year olds to compete because of "ego problems" - it is because the MNZ rules and the permit that has been granted do NOT permit this to happen. It is beyond the control of the bucket people, we do not make the rules, we follow them.
