    89 CBR400RR (NC23) rear wheel bearings

My left rear wheel bearing (the one in the sprocket carrier) has self destructed.

Not sure yet if I need a new 'carrier/hub' but I have compared the two rear wheels that I have - the one that hasn't collapsed has a longer shaft/bush thingy poking out of the inside left bearing (not the sprocket carrier bearing).

I'm guessing this is to take up the slack when tightening the axle, otherwise it would load up the bearing inside the sprocket carrier.

Probably accounts for why the bearing collpased on the other wheel.

Can anyone advise if this is correct - and where I may be able to get a second hand sprocket carrier ?

I may just take both wheels into the bike shop and ask them to 'fix it', but would appreciate any advice about the longer shaft being necessary etc.

And please feel free to take the piss out of my technical jargon...

yes, there should be an internal spacer, between the sprocket carrier & the hub
    That will explain the collapse

Cheers mate - is the spacer simply held in place inside the internal bearing ?

Yes,but without it,when you tighten the axle, you crush the bearing
And yes,I found out the hard way to!!!
