First first aid course a success

Thanks a Million to Dave (Firefight) Jen (draco) and Glen (v2 man) for giving up their valuable time to present a bloody good evening.
I learned a lot in a short time without it being too complicated to remember.
Everything we went through was understandable and a heck of a lot was good common sense-But only once they had explained it all to us.
I very much hope they will do another one in the future
I will be more than happy to play host
I must say i cant reccomend it enough.

A great course aimed specifically at bikers. It taught the fundaments of first aid without getting too bogged down into the long words. The topics were concise, clear and easy to interperate, even a dummy like myself followed though.

I would suggest that those who have done the course already try and review the main points in the next day or so that you can:
a)Make sure you still infact remember the main points.
b)Move the main points into long term memory.

If this course is offered again in the future I would thoroughly recommend it to those who are not up to scratch on their basic first aid.

A great informative session that all KBers would benefit from. Not only will we be safer bikers but will now be able to be more effective should we have the misfortune to come across a mishap - either on a ride or even around the workplace or home.

A very good course, hopefully I'll remember some of it, if (when?) the **** hits the fan.

Here's a non-definitive list of the basics for a first aid kit small enough to be carried on a ride. Non-specialist gear, so no formal training needed. All as discussed on the night, and thanks again to Firefight for jogging my memory for the bits I'd forgotten about.

- Tri-bandages (lots)
- latex gloves
- Guard sheets for mouth-to-mouth, can't remember the technical name
- Electrical tape or similar - or a good one is "Durapore" by 3m (white reinforced tape, damn handy for fixing things on bikes, too)
- Reasonably Heavy duty scissors/snippers for cutting clothes
- Wound pads (or whatever those big gauze dressing pads are called)
- "Sirus" sheet/bivvie bag/survival bag (gold one side, silver the other)
- saline solution (sodium chloride) for flushing eyes, small wounds etc
- a few sticky plasters
