Repost: So what?

I have been guilty of reposting an item of interest as have many other members of this site. When this happens it doesn't take long for someone to post the word "repost". I note that some people are now being put off posting some items because of the intimidation associated with a potential repost.

Unfortunately, Like most people, I do not have have the time to read every single item that is posted, and if there is an item of interest that is worth posting, then go ahead and post it. Often a search for an item won't show it unless the poster uses the exact same heading, or the exact wording of the main point of the post.

Then there are new members joining all the time who may not have even had a chance to see an item of interest if it was posted some time ago.

So I would suggest that the admonition "repost" only be used for items that have been reposted within a short time frame, say one week.

Jantar, I agree with what you're saying. Unfortunately there will always be those that think no matter when something was posted they are doing everyone a service by posting 'repost'. Just ignore them, let them feel big about throwing around some perception of authority and carry on.

I don't worry about reposts at all. If I've seen them before I just move on to another thread, doesn't bother me.

Some people like sniper just can't help sniping and as I pointed out to him a few weeks ago every time he posted "repost" that itself was a repost given how many times he posted repost. All quite stupid on his part in my view as if he thinks everyone else is too stupid to know whether they have seen something before or not.

Roll on with the reposts Jantar at least I'll check to see if I've seen them because there are so many posts these days I don't keep up with them all so I may well have missed one of them first time around anyway.

Wow, I though the whole repost thing was just a bit of good natured sport for the regulars! Didn't realise people took that sort of stuff to heart.

I may have been slightly misunderstood. I have been accused of a repost, but that was some time ago. However lately some of the best threads on here have repost as their second or third threads. If the poster had not posted, even though it was a repost, then I wouldn't have seen it. And I do consider myself a regular.

The effect of posting "repost" when a thread contains the same information that was last post two or three months, or even years, ago can be off-putting to some posters. I just find it annoying to read "repost" without any constructive or even debatable comment.
