I've been taking pills for some time. The reality is, that with the advent of the internet, originality became obsolete. You can either get wound up about things or just let go and move on.

I dont have an issue with a repost. However its a little irritating when people dont bother do a search and then ask a question that has been asked many many times and then the same answer gets given over and over again... e.g which companies transport bikes, do a search and you will find half a dozen threads and more on the subject.

I also agree with OAB about what he says about the people who feel the need the need to yell "repost" - if that what it takes to make them feel important?!... then hey

Jantar do your thing man... if its a repost, now and then it might be merged... but dont for one second take the "yellers" seriously... it takes all types mate...

Hell yeah - if you want to see some serious aggro over re-posts, have a nosey around a few Amerkin fora.

Perhaps its because that some people do not have a life of their own and need to nit pick everyone elses'? I find that the reposted stuff is often still worth a look, that or I have not even seen it before. Less biarching and more riding is needed?

Its standard practice on every forum I've been on to discourage reposting. Not only does it waste peoples time that have already seen it before, it can fragment a discussion into multiple threads of the same topic.

Theres also the argument of maybe there are people out there that still haven't seen it yet. If thats so then too bad thats what the search function is there for. Regular users do not want to be spammed with "reminders" of threads or funnies from weeks ago.

If someone replies "repost" then that tells me and other regular users that they've probably seen this before and to proceed at their own peril.

Yes it does suck when you post something that you think is very interesting only to find that someone else posted it before you, even when you took the liberty to check. However when it comes to reposting, its better that the offending reposter be inconvenienced, rather than the forum users. If this offends you then its really a YOU problem that you're trying to make everyone elses. Try to think of it as taking one for the team.

What might be useful is for the "repost" poster to post a link tothe original post/s. Then readers can refer to that post for more information that might not come up this time around.

There, something useful for the repost police to do...

It is easy to repost something - most of us have done it at some point in time. My feeling though, is that just replying in the thread saying "REPOST!" doesnt help anyone. By the time you get to that post, you will have already seen the original post and will be able to make up your own mind as to whether you have read it before or not.

At the risk of adding more work to the mods, I feel there are two logical steps in this situation, if it is a repost of an older thread, then the words "REPOST" could be added to the thread title. If its a newer thread (say a news item such as Steve Irwin's or Peter Brock's death) where there are several reposts in a short period of time, then the threads should just be merged.

But all in all, its not really that bigger deal.

I agree its not a huge thing.

However I can say that Spank and that means the mods do encourage someone "if in doubt" to do a search. There are certain subjects if you do a search numerous threads do come up: - http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=28560

With half a gazillion posts here every day, no one can ever be 100% sure they are not reposting something unless they read everything.

I suggest everyone adds a line to their sig like mine.

It's like a permanent apology for having a life.

    How are you anyway Sniper?

Have they got the jam jar out yet?

Seriously though, I was not able to establish the nature of your illness - probably due to my inferior search skills - but I do wish you all the best during your recovery.
