Orcon have semi-released their intentions for high speed plans...
will be interesting to see their 'fair use policy' etc also
depends whether they run no cap plans or not i guess.

The new plans will be available to order from October the 26th. Existing Orcon customers may elect to change to any one of the new plans at no charge, otherwise you will continue on your existing plan.

    http://www.orcon.net.nz/orcon_blog/o...s_coming_soon/

While we are putting the finishing touches on the plans, but there is a couple of things we can tell you about them:

    * There will be full-speed plans: full-speed means that your connection speed is as fast is your telephone line will allow, up to a blazing 7.6Mbps down and 768Kbps up.
    * You will be able to request to have interleaving on your phone line turned off. This may reduce the amount of latency on your broadband connection, which can improve things like online gaming and voice over IP (VOIP) services.

Those customers currently on 3.5Mbps/512Kbps plans will be automatically upgraded to full-speed/full-speed, and those on 3.5Mbps/128Kbps will be upgraded to full-speed/128Kbps.

It is all faster than a 2400bps modem which is when I remember starting going online and the "Interweb" wasn't available in NZ. The Bulletin Bord guys were the only market in town.

So put things in perspective a bit and give us all the bloody bandwidth we want for a bloody reasonable rate ... Cheating cloody ISPs

What I am annoyed at is when I first got my current connection I went wireless as 50 a month was unlimeted fast (230KBs on p2p stuff down) net. Now they have introduced a cap at 10 gigs which is poos and I am now looking for a new provider, and they all seem to be more expensive than when I joined my current one years ago.

    Cheaper internet

    Yeah right.

This new xtra plan looks the business though!

aye, but thinking that over if theres going to be a data cap i'll hapily trade say 1mb for 10gbs.

soooo.... that makes 7.6mb&10gb - 1mb for interleaving - 1mb for extra 10gb = 5.6mb and 20gb cap for lets say $50 a month? insert tui ad here.....

Wouldn't Orcon and all other ISP's have to honor the "fair use" policy. I can't see XTRA imposing it if they didn't have some way of making part of the wholsesale plans

Time to change your broadband plan (Xtra customers)

Today being the 26th of October you can now change your plan to one of the new plans,

for myself that means my new plan will go from a 10gig cap to unlimited and I will save $10 a month,

If you do not ring telecom (or fill out the online form) you will be on basically the same plan but with faster download speed and for the same cost.
