    Check out this mofo...

Found this at my house today.

Rung MAF and they couldn't exactly identify it, so captured the bastard, and couriered it to Christchurch MAF bugologists

just to put it in scale, it's about the size of a credit card

The ladies at the post shop were very weary of putting a live bug in the post ... and of course too scared to touch even the courier bag

    Hoooolllllyyyyyy......

Is it an Avondale spider? I know they're pretty big - not sure where you are, though. Whatever - I wouldn't like it to be walking across my pillow!

    Cripes!

EDIT: PS - this website might help ya out:

    definately not an avondale.

best guess from the photo from the guys at MAF was a cambridgea, commonly called a sheet web spider ..

They are going to email tomorrow once they get there.

If it is a sheet web, find in Hamilton is pretty rare, so they were keen on the details all the same

Doesn't look like an Avondale, I had the displeasure of seeing one of the big A's up close one morning when I awoke in my bed to see it crawling a mere 10cms from my face near my pillow!

Hey if it turns out to be a type that can't be identified make sure you get first dibs on naming it.

Definitely not an Avondale , they are hairy buggers. Looks a bit like a deformed trapdoor spider on steroids, but I dont think you get those here.
    Good catch either way.
Keep watching the web area for the next few weeks and see if any younger ones come out. seriously.
