'06 Coast to Coast Run- 9 Dec 06

    Got this e-mail today-

    Woodville Lions Club
Suzuki Coast to Coast Motorcycle Ride
    Himatangi to Akitio

    9th December 2006.

    Registration 9.30am Start time 10.30am

Now in it's 14th year the 'Coast to Coast' is one of those rides that
seems to draw people back year after year. The Woodville Lions Club
which initiated and still organizes the ride, state that each year
more and more riders come from an ever widening circle, a heartening
sign for the club, who donate the entire proceeds of the day to the
Rescue Helicopter. So far over $67,000 has been donated since the
    ride began.
The slogan for this year's ride is "IT'S NOT WHAT YOU RIDE - IT'S HOW
YOU RIDE" and as with prior years the ride will be overseen by the
Police highway Patrol. Woodville Lions are grateful for the support
from Road Safe Central and Suzuki New Zealand, both of whom provide
much needed advertising sponsorship. RD1 sponsorship has also been
    most helpful.
As those who have participated before will attest, the ride is
frequently covered by TV1 and /or TV3, more often as not, as the
snake winds it's way through the Manawatu Gorge or over the Saddle
Hill past the wind turbines. The morning run ends at Woodville where
riders become part of the annual Christmas parade. This is a
spectacular sight with people coming from far and wide to view the
vast array of motorcycles. After a complimentary BBQ lunch it's off
to Akitio, with most riders arriving around 3pm ready for the handout
of spot prizes and refreshments prior to heading home, or as more and
more are choosing to do, staying overnight and enjoying the
    hospitality of the locals.
The Coast to Coast has become one of New Zealand's 'classic' rides.
If you haven't experienced it, it's probably time you did. For those
who haven't stayed over at Akitio, you have missed something unique.
The locals really look forward to this annual invasion and go out of
their way to look after their "guests". A $10 meal is available from
6pm at the Boat Club, with karaoke entertainment to follow. Full bar
facilities are available at club prices. The locals even provide
accommodation at the Community Centre. The Akitio Beach Camping
ground also has great facilities with comfortable cabins and tent
sites with power connections. Bookings are essential however for all
accommodation. The local shop also does takeaways and a morning
    breakfast.
Regardless whether you are a first time Coast to Coaster or a 14th
year veteran, we look forward to seeing you at 9.30am on the 9th
December at Himatangi. Remember, this is a badge ride with badges
available at registration and at the end.

    Should be fun

Not 100% sure I'll go this year but will see closer to the date.

great ride. Did it last year about a week after I got the 600. Rode with dhunt and his mate. Was a little slow from the beach to woodville but there is something sobering about seeing bikes as far as you can see forward and as far as you can see backwards. Fanstastic.
After woodville the pace picks up to whatever you want it to be. Just don't get tied up in others stupidity and all is good. I will be going again this year.

Yup! Can honestly say that this is a fantastic ride-the cops even close the roads for us in some places. Looking forward to it

I plan to be there, sounds awesome. After enjoying the Great KB'er ride so much I'm keen for anything similar.

Sounds like an outing for the Triumph.....

Tenting at the distant end? Anyone taking a vehicle for camping stuff? If there was enough interest I'm guessing the loverly Vicki could be conned into taking the S/W or a trailer for recovery if you want to take something real odd...

I've stayed over the last three years running...but this year I'm planning on heading back to the in-laws in Palmy the same day.

Last year we lit a bonfire on the beach and that was a heap of fun.

May have to go again this year, didnt do the ride last year but had a ball when a couple of us did it on the mighty CT110's. The so called shorcut with not much gravel Bonez is talking about actually took some people over an hour.
Camping out at Akitio is a blast - bonfire on the beach is much better than listening to pissed up bikers trying to sing Karaoke.
If you're not living on the edge you're not leaning over far enough
