Hi - I was looking at jackets and things on trademe a month ago. Then I went into Cycle Treads adn they had several $300+ jackets at 50% price as end of line (big choice of sizes, styles and colours too - armourtek general ones and italian racing style). Even new an offer for the dririder aspen was only $170 - I've seen some people after that kind of cash on trademe. Some boots were down from $150 to only 49 bucks - although only in size 9.
So I would definitely look in the shops first.
Both Mt Eden cycels and Haldanes here also offered me great deals on gear if I bought a 2nd hand bike - either free kit with a CB250 or 1/2 with cheaper bikes - worth a think.
Also they had 94 GN250s for $2700 - with the security of buying from a dealer. Pays not to write off the shops too early and rush to trademe, although I have also seen many overpriced bikes in the shops too.

... having said that I got me a trademe bike and boots in the end anyway

Thanks for the Advice 90's, i recently checked out a couple of shops and some of the gear was a fair bit cheaper than i had originally expected, however these shops seemed to be very bare bones when it camer to <250cc Bikes...a little dissapointing, the only place i have seen any really was about a month ago in Lower Hutt at TSS and they seemed to only stock Hyosung Bikes @ $5000+ and a Yamaha Scorpio(i think) at $3750+ Onroad Costs. Both of these far out of my price range. finding a low CC bike in the wellington region for under 2500 bux seems to be a mission!!

90s may i ask how much your Rg150 cost??

My RG cost $1500 but I consider it a real bargain. The previous owner had paid $1900 a few months before, but dropped it, although the damage was minimal (wing mirrors smashed etc). It was out of brake fluid and needed little things but after I spent a two hundred bucks was A1 (OK - B1).
I have seen loads on Trademe recently (one on at the mo for $2400 - bit high that one) but I reckon at the moment around <2k is OK.
Certainly better (for me - comfort, style, speed) than a 250 cruiser.
And 250 sports are 3.5k - too rich for my blood yet.
Good luck finding a decent cheap bike!
