Some days I think I am the only person in this country who does this,I avoid the Northern Motorway out of Christchurch as without exception every time I use it there is some numbnut in the right lane sitting at the same speed as the guy in the left,if you manage to pass him there's another a few hundred metres up the road.

I have found in the North people have been much better behaved and seem to practice better lane discipline(those in the North may disagree) and for myself I constanly use my mirrors and move over even on a single lane road to allow faster traffic to pass,it's such a simple thing why can't people get it right?

And don't get me started on people who don't know what the indicator switch is for

I know what you mean. Some time ago I was heading up north when I came up on one of the larger clubs that we have here. I won't name it just in case I decide to join up one day.
Anyway there was a large group of them, which made passing a bit of a problem. They were practicaly riding pillion on each others bikes so you had to pass 30 bikes instead of one at a time to get in front of them. I'd see a passing lane coming up and think here's my chance. Wrong! The buggers would spread all over both lanes but they would all stick at the same speed.
It took me ages to get past the bastards. I was so pissed off that I wrote a letter to the club complaining about their road manners and got told that they prefer to ride in the outside lane because it has less oil and shit spilt on it so it is safer. What a bunch of tossers!
I guess there's some bikers that need to learn how to share the road as well.

emmmm....... When I was a learner I was told that the right hand lane was for passing only, 'correct?'
Well believe it or not the road code has changed. I got involved in this decussion the other day at work and I dident believe that you can legly pass on the left thats the 'inside'
So therfore you may stay in the right lane for as long as you like, and the problem is as you say 2 cars can sit side by side all bloody day, once again because of buracratic dick heads sitting in a bloody office trying to justafy ther jobs.

So true Grump's.... There is something seriously wrong with driver training in this country, just the other day I was with a subbie from work going down to get smoko, he was driving a auto Falcon and at every intersection he'd take the thing out of gear and would NOT put the foot on the brake.

Chch being so flat means that drivers can be very slack surley it cant be as bad in welly and other hilly citys.

The rules in NZ are you can pass on any side as long as you do it according to the Road Code. In Pomgolia they frown upon passing on the left. However, here you are meant to keep left unless passing and you aren't meant to hold up other traffic.

I have found (without fail) the open-road/motorway driving standards take an absolute nosedive when you get south of bulls.

So far the place that has got my blood pressure up the most is the hutt motorway. Thick bastards farting along at 80km/h in the right hand lane sitting next to someone on the left. Theres absolutely no reason for it.

Last time I drove from akl to wgtn (couple of months ago?) it was all fine until I got to bulls. People started pulling out infront of me, not indicating in crucial places (pulling over on an open road "WHAT THE FCK ARE YOU DOING?")
Gah its just irritating me now.

Well, that may be the case, but NZ is about the only place in the world where the right lane (left in Europe, the US, etc.) is not a passing-only / high speed lane. In most countries you would get a ticket for driving like this.
And as for the stupid habit of EVERYONE (including the snails) speeding up when a passing lane comes up, that is stupid, selfish and dangerous, and has to do with the stupid Kiwi attitude that looks on being overtaken as a slight on one's manhood.

Well, our "friends" in the LTSA and the Police would argue that you shouldn't be doing any more than 100kmh anyway... Interestingly therefore that two lanes of traffic doesn't move any more traffic any more quickly. In fact when the powers that be cone off all of the passing lanes into and out of Wellington at long weekends the traffic flows along famously well. Give people two lanes and they don't know how to zipper merge (people who want to get home one car-length more quickly), you get two lanes of stopped traffic. Sigh.

In Pomgolia they frown upon passing on the left.

Not only do they frown on it but it`s a serious traffic offence and you`ll get the book thrown at you if you get caught.Over here driving standards are diabolical,and semingly getting worse despite the test being toughened up almost every year.When I was in N.Z. I thought the standard of driving was excellent.Got funny looks when i mentioned it to my mates so you can judge for yourself the kind of shit we have to put up with here.

Most passing lanes down here are preceded with a large sign saying "keep to the left unless passing" - you still get buggers that can't read of course!
