I can assure you I HAVE paid my fair share of taxes.. looking after other peoples kids.. running holidays programmes.. & as a co-ordinator of an after school programme.. as well as other jobs!! & it was NOT MY CHOICE as you suggest.. yes, I was treated badly by an absconding male.. who took a fancy to a nympho bimbo at his work & chose to bonk her... (typical male.. thinks with his LITTLE head!!) we split up.. 6 WEEKS later.. she was off with someone else.. I was left with an 8 year old & an 18 month old to pick up the pieces.. alone! what should I have done.. said.. "aawww.. it's ok honey.. lets pretend nothing happened..."??? There ARE SOME people out there who make the benefit a cozy way of life.. & support their smoking & drinking habits whilst on it.. I am not one of them! I am doing everything I can to make sure my kids are well fed, clothed, educated & are very much loved.. & I am educating myself so I can be in a position to help other people who find themselves in similar positions to what I had to deal with! & don't forget.. there are plenty of solo fathers out there too.. do they get bad press too?????

Personally - I think the whole thing is a bit sad. Good luck to her, it may work out but honestly the odds are against it. Still, my hope is she, her partner and her baby have a happy life.

Whats even sadder is we expect this poor child to be a role model for Maori. She is a real person and all we know of her really is a fictional character in a bloody film. FFS - when have actors EVER been a decent role model for our kids, Maori, french or anyone. Rock Hudson? That Munroe woman? Christ the list of friggin disasters is endless. The media industry is called the dream factory for a reason - it's a bloody dream - not reality.

The media need to front up here. Stop glorifing their own dreams of imortality and give society role models that achieve and contribute to society. Firemen, Ambos, Nurses, Doctors, Civil Engineers, Mechanics, Dads and Mums that put their familes dreams in front of their own, Soldiers on Peacekeeping missions, Police that do GOOD things (yes there are some).... Even self made men like our own uber business guru Finn is a better role model than an actor (a noble profession but not one all our kids should aspire to). Its not REAL.

The focus is on the easy buck - fame at all costs. Even if it means killing some one eh? Better a famous criminal than a nobody.

I for one do not appreciate your comments regarding solo mothers.. I take it you have no kids...?? I can assure you.. being a solo parent is bloody hard work!!!! I am at work 24 hours of the day.. I have no one to come home at the end of the day & 'help'. As well as the total care for 2 young children, I have to do ALL the chores around the house, plus mow the lawns & do the gardens etc. plus being a student at Polytech! I went to see Steve Biddulph, who wrote the books "Raising Boys' & 'The secrets of happy children' & in his seminar he said.. "being a parent is like having a full time job, being a SOLO parent, is like having 2 full time jobs.. CONSECUTIVELY"!!!! I had to take my 4 year old son to A & E at midnight last Sunday, with a serious delayed allergic reaction.. we were there for 2 & 1/2 hours before we could come home.. he was back up again at 8.30 am.. as was I.. I had no one to help me all day Monday with a cranky 4 year old, while I was like a walking zomby myself from a serious lack of sleep.. & you claim.. "a solo mum does very well, for NOTHING". I would like to see you come here & do my JOB for a week.. then, & only then, you might have some sort of right to comment on the life of a solo mother!!
