Cheers to all medicos & emergency staff

I just spent every day of the last 3 weeks visiting a family member in ICU units in middlemore & akld. what i saw really restored my faith in the good in people. Sometimes You just forget about all the behind the scenes work that goes on. just wanted to say a big shout out to all the emergency services staff & medicos that put in a huge effort day in day out to keep us alive & well. From the staff in hospitals to the ambulance drivers & medics, to the firefighters & cops running round trying to make a difference. THANKS TO YOU ALL. be proud of Your contribution.

As a vollie fire-fighter - Cheers! Always good to know someone appreciates us.

And good on you for expressing your thanks - I am sure that all the people working at middlemore and auckland appreciate it as well.

Wot he said in spades! I've nothing but the greatest admiration and respect for the men and women who give so much of themselves in this way! Based on a lot of personal experience.

And if you are not quite ICU material you can spend 4 days in a chair in a treatment room and they will get to you 'when they can'.
The system behind the good people completely blows.

Hope your people are OK too.

Hope your family member is doing ok now. Thanks for showing your appreciation. I needed to see that after being assaulted by a patient on my last night shift. It's good to know that we do make a difference for some people.

When I was in hospital a couple years back was in a small room with a builder who had fallen off some scaffolding down a few stories and had broken his arm into lots of pieces he got there the day before me and was still waiting for surgery when I left 3 days later!

But dont worry the dole money still went out on thursday to support all those truely in need.

I can't comment on the emergency services because I've never been a member, and it's too easy to make comment when sitting behind a keyboard.

    Mine are made from experience.
Co-pilot ran surgical services at Middlemore a few years ago. The whole shootin' match.
The people ARE great (one of the bully doctors I'd like to bump into at the pub just once) - but the system and it's funding is spiralling towards being bankrupt.

Get private health insurance if you can afford it.

Most of the ones we're talking about here are too dedicated to abuse it.

my appologies for putting a downer on a well intentioned thread.

good to hear - and it is reassuring to know that if you really need it - you still get world class care in NZ.
