So our adopted mother cat and her 3 kittens are doing very well, she has got her condition back, and the young ones are thriving. There have been no more oop's since the second night,we can forgive her that one.She is spending short bits of time away from them....yesterday while I was fiddling around with my bike she was lying on the grass next to me soaking up the sun.
Last night at 11.30 she went for a 10 minute walk outside, and came back in before the kittens missed her,she really knows how long she can leave them. Then I gave her a last bit of positive reinforcment before I went to bed at midnight. At 3.00am she was in the bedroom,so we went back to the kittens, she had a snack and drink, poked her head out the door....then jumped in and woke up her babies for a feed.I've been checking up on her that time every night,so maybe she wanted me to keep to that routine.
This morning I see her in the hall sitting outside the spare bedroom/office.She follows me as I head to the door to put my boots on to head off for work.I look in the box and her kittens are gone!!!!! AAAARGH! She must of shifted them, they do that...so I race around the house and can't find them,I look in wardrobes, under beds, behind chairs....gone,the kittens are gone! Maybe she ate them, animals in the wild can eat their young, but they have to be very stressed out to do that....we aren't that bad to live with are we? But she looks unconcerned, even a bit smug.....cold hearted baby killer?
I leave for work a little worried, and my wife rings 20 minutes later (yes, that was me in the Pajero drifting across 2 lanes with a phone jammed in my ear) She has found the kittens under the spare bed.I looked there,in a panic and didn't see them. But it is single bed with double bedding, she had made a nest in the folds. So now her box has clean bedding and is back where it's supposed to be....we'll have to keep an eye on her now.
If I'm like this with kittens, how am I going to be in a month when we have a human baby in the house?
