Well, went and saw Hammond Gamble, Hello Sailor and Th' Dudes last night in Wellington. Great concert, but couldn't reconcile my memories of Graham Brazier with the middle-aged guy on stage! He can still sing though. I'd forgotten all the Hammond Gamble songs I used to know, and Peter Urlich was great. When they sang Bliss the place went wild!

What I couldn't understand were the actions of several people in the row next to us and the one behind. First of all, I am five foot one so don't take up a lot of space. Guy sitting next to me was one of those tall, gangly guys who didn't seem to have control of his limbs very well! Sat down and immediately stuck his legs out at an angle and had his feet right where mine had been. Once the show started he was tapping his feet - no problem with that, except he was landing on mine, which by then were almost directly in front of my seat! After it happened for about the sixth time, I kicked him in the ankle and he stopped! Then when everyone stood up to dance, he was dancing like Gumby the plasticine man, and acting like he was on a dance floor, not the space between rows of seats - so I got repeatedly whacked by his arms and he stood on my feet several times. He'd elbowed me twice while hanging his jacket on the back of the seat - and it would have to be the one I've just had two months of physio on! He looked stoned and had been drinking all through the show but it was really pissing me off. He had one of those Mick Jagger rubber faces and the slapper he had with him had a voice that would strip paint at 50 paces! Her mate - possibly her sister as her voice was even louder and more annoying - had yapped all through Hammond's set, but when Hello Sailor started she got even louder. Everyone was glaring at her but it had no effect so in the end I turned around and said "did you come here to listen to the music or just to talk?" and that shut her up!

Why are people so damned inconsiderate nowadays? I never got to use the arm rest because even though I had my arm on it when Gumby arrived, he pushed it off! All of these people were aged about 45-50 so they are old enough to know how to behave in public but obviously they didn't give a stuff about anyone else's enjoyment!

The question is, why werent you up the front? I went to the 2nd auckland show (there is a thread on this titled dude its the dudes) and i was first in line and right up front of the stage,

I was so close I managed to grab a set list after the show!

Awesome as man. ears rang louder than a 2 stroke for days! (only just stopped rining now)

I went to the show last night too - was great! I don't know any of the bands from first time around so there were no 'oh my god, is THAT what they look like now' moments for me!
We had a couple in our row (just a few back from the stage) who were intermittently arguing and having a great old time. She was pissed out of her tree and kept standing up to dance (the only person in the whole place on a few occasions - and she was very loud with Hammond Gamble and kept shouting for them to play whatever song it was that seemed to be her fave!). Watching those 2 was like watching a soap opera - very amusing!
All in all it was a great night and we were lucky enough to be on the end of a row so we didn't have any of those issues with people taking up too much of our space - been to concerts where that HAS happened tho and yes, it's REALLY annoying.

Jeeze - you should have gone to the Bob Dylan concert. The entry fee was worth it just to see the morons in the crowd. They may have grown up to be head of Department and the Department of Useless Statistics and own a new Volvo and be onto their 3rd wife (you know the one with the breast implants) but their memories of the effects of pot has dimmed and like you, I seriously wonder why half the stupid pricks went. It certainly was not to appreciate the man and his music...

It reminded me, why I don't go to concerts often.....

We were in the middle, about two thirds of the way back, and could see that woman - she was really loud too! And before anyone asks why I was using the arm rest in the first place, every time I stood up to dance, Gumby just about knocked me over so I gave up in the end. I was hoping to see him going down the stairs and push him over!

I was there last night. Up in the gallery. Heard that stupid cow yelling at Hammond Gamble too.
Th'Dudes totally rocked. I sadly can say I was an underaged teen in the late 70s at the Hillsborough booze barn when they played there a few times. Was overawed at the quality of their songs then and again last night. Dancing on our chairs near the end. It was absolute bliss. Peter Urlich was the bizz.
