Korea - What is there leader thinking?

Cant be assed getting names etc correct but with regards to the Koreans 'nuclear bomb' test it would seem that what they have come up with is rather pathetic by modern standards of Nuclear Weapons - althought still quite worrying.

What amazes and amuses me is that the Leader of this smallish country has the balls to tell America to disarm if they want Korea to do so. Now i dont know about you but last time i was in the playground and the little dipshit talked down to the 'big bully' he got his ass kicked thouroughly.

Lets put things in perspective here. The Korean test is deemed to be about 1-2 kilotonnes of energy - about 2000 tonnes of TNT... (from memory)
Now one of their neighbour hood bullies is Mother Russia who has the Tzar Bomba - a 50 MEGAtonne thermonuclear weapon (that equivalent to 50,000 tonnes of TNT (e.g a FUCKLOAD))
For those not understanding thats 4000 times the hiroshima bomb, the mushroom cloud reached a height of 40mi/60km, and the shockwave was so strong it was still being measured on its 3rd pass around the globe. It would destroy everything within a 30mi diameter, and the fire ball would incinerate everything within 110mi. Koreas bomb made the equivalent of a 1-2 on the richter scale, e.g not much at all

I dont know about you but if my neighbour had just ONE of these in his playbox i wouldnt want to be telling him what to do.

That is 4 times stronger than Americas best tested bomb but Americas ones are far more accurate than the Russians ones, either way they do a lot more damage than what the Koreans can come up with.

Of course, i'm hoping like hell that this does all come to nothing because i know for a fact that they any of these three start throwing their toys out of the cot then we're probably all on the side of slightly screwed.

The problem R6 is that the 'dipshit' has some bullys o fhis own to back him up.

    That's the simple version.

To upgrade the situation, is that N. Korea is a buffer for the Chinese against the American backed S. Korea. Many are under the illusion that this is primarily for military purposes and while this to some extent is correct the real reason for the buffer zone (now) is to isolate S.Korea's economic prospereity from Mainland China. The problem is further compounded by the fact that neither the Chinese or the S. Koreans can afford to 'overtake,' I don't like to use the word invasion for reasons that I won't go into, N Korea as this would bring China and S Korea in a direct border stand off.

The positive side to this is that it should bring the USA and China into dialogue on this issue as both have reason to curtail N Koreas nuclear program.

If both the Chines and Americans are unable to solve this issue then I suspect that Kim Il Sung will be removed from power by the Chinese. That's a long shot at this point in time but not entirely without foundation as a possible solution.

I sat down and had a good read of the paper yesterday and learnt quite a bit about the censorship that goes on in N. Korea. Seems that 99% of people didnt want to have their say about the government (good or bad) for fear of percecution. Poor bastards really because i've had a lot of Koreans in my classes at school and the ones that spoke up were really good people.

R6_kid, Although I agree with your sentiments, the data you present actually understaetes the true facts. The Tzar Bomb was designed with a 100 MT yield. The test was only 50 MT because the but the uranium fusion stage tamper of the tertiary was replaced with lead which reduced the overall yield by 50%. The bomb was too big to be carried by any suitable aircraft so a Tu-95 had to be specially modified to carry it.

The americans do have equivilent weapons. The Titan missile which was decommissioned in the mid 80's was designed to carry the W53 warhead which nominally had a 9MT yield, but it had also been tested with a single 40 MT warhead, similar to the one tested at Bikini but with a multi stage warhead. The 40 MT warhead never went into production however the USA showed that they could produce such results if required. The largest american warhead that was available to USA forces was the 25 MT Mk41.

So the Tzar as tested is only 25% larger than the largest American tested bomb, but had the potential to be 4 times larger than the largest american weapon that went into production. It is also hardly fair to say that the Tzar went into production as only 1 was ever produced.

The only thing that can protect any country in the USA's crosshairs is the threat of nuclear retaliation. Iran knows this, NKorea knows this.

Thats all there is too it. The states have proven they are ready to spill blood in other countries whether they are a viable threat or not. Iraq was the least of USA's worries but they hit them not because they were a threat but cause they were weak enough to do so. No one else wants to be in that situation.

no one wants to start a nuclear war.

You're getting confused with south Koreans and North Koreans..... I don't think you would have had any north Koreans in your class at school. While there are some North Koreans out of North Korea but very very few either selected people (who Do have say in what goes on) or the North Korean refugees which you don't see much. North Koreans are the ones that are oppressed by their communist government without freedom while south Koreans are the ones that come to New Zealand and get disgusted by the socialistic government that is here (perhaps in small part due to the fact that a lot of people in south Korea from early age are brought up to believe that freedom and self reliance (anti-socialism or more commonly capitalism) is vital to a good economy and society)
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

Of all the Asians I have found the Koreans the most hospitable. This may have soemthingto do with the fact the South Korea has been westernised more successfully than anywhere else in Asia. There is a school of thought, which I adhere to, is that this may have much to do with the continuel invasions of the Korean Pennususla. As a people they have had to adapt to these invasions.
