any one seen it i went today and must say it is a pretty emotional draining film but it is very well done and does portray Gray as a human with his own mental problems. I knew some of the people killed and while i didnt enjoy the film i am glad i saw it

Will it be as good as the spine chilling documentary that came out a year or two after from TV1, with the original cast....and absolutely no music....just let the events unfold as they did.. brilliant.

I intend to see it, but it varies from what actually happened according to the policeman who wrote the book.
It is a shame that the police could have prevented this from occurring as Gray was known to the local police constable, and (going from memory of the events back then) threatened the local shopkeeper several days before.

Bit of booze on board at the moment but this is typical of the situation of when people get carried away with guns and military bullshit on Kiwibiker I stick my oar in and annoy some of them. Sort of wonder about people who are fasinated by the power of the gun. Like would they be as tough if it was "one on one" I know of one person who fits the David Gray profile, who wouldn't say boo too a mouse but you talk to him and you wonder why he's even allowed a gun. Has a collection of some serious stuff totally facinated with the military but could not pass the tests. But nothing has been done about him because he has not given them cause for concern ....yet????? But I don't think he would ever voice any of his stuff on a internet forum. its a long drive you could swim quicker as long as the tide wasnt going in or out there is a lot of water going out that gap, i nearly had my boat tipped over by the bow wave of a container ship coming in i was pulled over to near pilots beach in about 5 ft of water and the bow wave was about 8 ft tall had to gun it over the wave

Brilliant - Semi Short Review
I heard on the radio this morning that film critics were giving great reviews about this movie, and they have already called it one of the best New Zealand films, Ever! Not only that, but that it's the most important film for New Zealanders to see.
I was a bit sceptical, since from the recent years gone by I find that New Zealand's film community blows it's own trumpet, and glorifies anything and everything, as long as it's a New Zealand film. The River Queen is a good example, and it's blatantly obvious as an "outsider", that NZ often gives productions too much false praise, almost out of habit (even down to things like NZ Idol, which is an international joke).
HOWEVER!
Out Of The Blue (Aramoana) is an absolutely brilliant film, phenomenal almost. It is so well made, that in the short time before the killing starts, you actually feel friendly / close with the residents, and from the very first shooting, you are left shocked and in bewilderment. When I watched the movies about 9/11 (United 93, Flight 93 and the latest one - World Trade Centre), I was saddened, but I expected it. Being an immigrant since 2001, I hadn't heard about this event until the movie's trailer started appearing before other movies I watched, so it was all new to me - and even more powerful because I knew it was true (in this case down to the last detail).
The acting is of a very high standard, as someone mentioned they even managed to give accurate insight as to the murderer's thoughts and mental state, making it quite understandable what caused his maniacally susceptible mind to "crack". It's one of those movies that you find yourself thinking about long after you leave the cinema. I can understand why it traumatised the preview audiance when it was shown, as they included the survivors who wanted to watch it, and other locally connected residents.
I'd recommend this as a must see, just like the professional critics recommend.

Ahh, on which points? Is there any actual account of what happened one can read / watch? Are the variations of minor or more major events?

The officer, interviewed on Cambell Live, wrote one of the original books shortly after the events and this book was used as a guide for the movie.
He stated that there were 2 variations from the facts of that day and stated that one was that the AOS didn't walk away from Gray once they had shot him, but applied 1st aid.
He didn't state what the second point was though.
