    Tacho problems

    Gday,
I noticed that the tacho on the KR wasnt working on the ride to uni today, it just sits at the 0rpm level at the bottom of the dial and doesnt budge. Does anyone have an idea what would be causing this before I go and stuff things up?

    Cheers!

    Cable driven? = broken cable
Electronic? = wire off/ bad earth?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I bet you a million bucks the cable is stuffed. They're consumables, of a sort. Disconnect it and you should be able to figure out what's the go with it. Get a new one -- should be less than $50, far less so on a modern bike like yours -- and don't forget to lubricate it before you use it (pour some oil down between the outer and inner, use a funnel) otherwise you won't get much use out of it before you need another one lol.

Electrics shouldn't be an issue; the electrics in dash units tend to be built as a unit with common grounds and voltage rails, so there's a good chance that if it were electrics your speedo would be stuffed too. All your other lights and stuff are still going? It'll be the cable.

    Good luck.

To clarify - some units are cable-driven and some are electronic. I don't know what the KR uses, but the problem will most likely be one of what I mentioned

    KR is cable,

And yeah, its either fallen off (happens all the time on mine, cause i take my dash out for track days) or the cable has snapped...

Oh sorry MSTRS... electronic? I didn't know that. Like on a push-bike? Sweet, that's a far better idea than a bloody cable lol.

If my dash unit keeps falling to pieces I'll build an electronic one... put a little microcontroller in with trip meter and average speed and stuff. Cool! Thanks for the idea ^_^.

Good luck with your problem mate, have you sorted it out yet?
