as a comparison, one of the guys at the aero club is off to botswana to fly. there is no pay, just expenses. life is reasonably tough, and the place is pretty unforgiving. he's going for the experience, it's going to cost him $10k (he's already spent $70k) and he will find that there is a huge world out there, and that stooging around in your 172 in NZ is not the be all. it just takes a leap of faith. RG, the question is, do you have the ablilty to make that leap? another comparison - BMX pro racers. sleep in their cars, on the floor of mates places. travel all over the states and aussie chasing $500 purses. they've taken the leap though, and are loving it. my cousin did an apprentiship at a gearbox overhaul shop in hamilton. went to europe at 19 and turned up at alain prosts F1 team on a practice day. got a job sweeping the floor. 1 year later had his F1 test driver's licence, and was building gearboxes for a leading F1 team.
i recall a comment on the WSB a couple of weeks ago - that guys who spent too long on the 250s and supersports had difficulty changing their style to ride the superbikes! interesting.... sure look up to the guys on the 1000's, but NEVER forget - they were once 16 years old wondering what they were going to do.......
