    Oks oks ... I found this and am pissing myself laughing at the logistics. You could easily add another 100+ kg of fuel and have a great time going around the coro loop.

    Now, the important questions are ... how would you register it under NZ law? It doesn't touch the ground (thanks Brent_B) so might not even need to be registered. Wouldn't need a WOF either would it? "does this have disk or drum brakes?"

    But damn, I've played with remote controlled hovercraft before and they drift and are loads of fun. Does somebody have one in their shed I can borrow?

    Yeah, did you watch that episode of Mythbusters too where they made one with leaf blower motors and plastic sheets.

    Hovercraft are easy.. Well the easy part is making the thing hover. The hard part is making it controlable. A lawn mower motor makes a good blower motor. And the drive fan needs to have very small tolerance between the fan and the housing to be effective.

    Helped with the rebuild of the old Auckland Airport SRN-6 it was powered by a Rolls Royce Gnome engine (gas turbine). It was a huge thing (about 50' long) that could do about 50 Knots. We had a great time blasting around the Waitemata and Gulf before shiping it off to Fiji. It was a difficult thing to handle down slow but was really an awesome piece of kit. last I heard of it it was sitting in Saipan rusting away..

    I've got one, Powered by 2 sachs rotary engines, one for thrust and the other for lift. the problem is that the thrust motor is shot and we tried repowering it with a GT250 engine but it's heavy and just doesnt have the guts.
