Hey folks,
Just inherited my first bike from a mate who has been forced into retirement at the age of 30, due to the impending arrival of their first kid, and a paranoid wife.
So I am now the proud owner of a Yamaha RZ250!
I suppose I really should look into getting a licence, it just sucks that being over 25 counts for diddly these days, I sure as hell ain't looking forward to L plates... oh the humility!

It's been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off.
As I ran out the door, I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off.
Now I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.

Let's put it this way;
You've inherited a bike that, naturally, you want to ride. So you go out riding, without a lisence, and get stopped. $400 fine immediately. Then there's impounding and more fine for more stops. It's cheaper to get your lisence. I know of a few people who either don't ride with L plates or break off a corner and attatch that, so that when they get stopped they can say "Oh I'm sorry officer I didn't realiseit must have only just happened..."
Not that I'm advocating anything illegal.

Well, picked the old girl up about an hour ago, and just been having a play. She hasn't been kicked over in almost 18 months, so I was a bit dubious about her will to live, however the ignition light came up, and after half a dozen kicks, and a smidge of choke, she lives!
Well, I feel less of a fraud for being a member now, although I might mosey on over to the mechanical corner, being pretty ignorant on the mechanics of a bike, I have a few questions...
And joy of joys, the previous father of Daisy (it's yellow, his wife named it, it's stuck...) threw me a leather riding jacket, a brand new helmet, and a brand shpanking pair of gloves... huzzah!

That's the way I have driven a car for the last 16 years, and touching a pant load of wood, I have yet to have a prang.
I work with the Ambulance service as a volunteer, and am not about to end up like some of the guys I have scraped off the road.
Hoping to get my Handling Cert very very soon, would like to have my learners inside a few weeks... just got to persuade SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) that it is a priority... I think reiterating the point that my wagon is currently using almost $60 a week in gas should do it...
So look out folks, Daisy might just be tagging along on some rides sometime soon.
...just don't go over 70, I won't be allowed to keep up... oh and I have to be home by 10 or my testes may turn into a pumpkin... or a kiwifruit... or something like that...

Hey we wait at corners.... to direct you to the next meet up place.
Most rides are over by 10pm... you just have to leave a tad early if you come on the Thursday night rides... or even if you just meet at the pub... you can still be home by the 10pm curfew witching hour.
The helmet - is it a good fit? No movement at all when you have it on?

I cannot understand your mates wife - having a kid doesnt change the odds of something happening out on the road, and is no reason to give up riding.
Since having my first kiddie only 6 weeks I ago I have been an even more cautious rider than before (and got a new bike!).

Miracles do happen! SWMBO agreed to my Basic Handling Cert - I'm sitting it next Saturday... woohoo!
Next step, re-learning the road code... now green means... beer?
Kiwifruit - I'll snap a couple of pics in a day or so, after I have had a chance to tidy her up a bit. She's been sitting in a carport for the last 14 months and needs some serious TLC... just got to find a nice way of getting rust spots off the exhaust... chrome with brown specks is just wrong...
And crashe - the helmet is a perfect fit - the only movement it has is when I take it off or put it back on!

I only used L-plate when going to do full test.
I don't want to put a hex on you or anything but you might consider changing your user name.
I brought a CBR600, wrote it off within 5 weeks (not my fault). Only when I when to make the claim I found a mistake made by whoever entered the bike details. The bike was on the registration form as a CPR. Spooky!!!!
