Hey Alice.... not too long and you will have your bike, I know what its like to wait around... couldnt do it, had to buy a brand new one!

I rode to carterton last night... got up to 90km, it feels really fast, more practice needed.

Cool more bikie chicks to ride with... yay apteryx has a ginny too!!

Well I am pretty easy to go riding anytime really.... can get babysitters pretty easily Mrs KD.

I am buying a new bike, a Honda VTR 250, I ordered it on my birthday as a presant to myself but the suppliers had sold out in NZ.I could have hunted around the country to see if there was one avalible in another shop, but I like to get a repore going with a local buisness and support them so I did not bother hunting around.It should have arrived yesterday but with delay its back to countdown, 12 days to go this wait.Its on a ship out there somewhere ! Better enjoy its holiday cause its not going to get one when I get my hands on it.I will be gutted if its delayed any further.
So yu got up to 90k, woo-hoo, bet yu had a bit smile.
I will be keen to get together for a ride once mobile.

COuldn't be happier with my decision, either. The other option was a 2004 Honda VTR250 with only 7500 kms on it. It was a nice bike but went out of my budget range.

The best thing about the GN was I got the new bike and all my gear for less than I would have paid for just the VTR!

Now on my restricted license so I can go 100 without feeling ever so slightly guilty...

As for the gals ride, I will watch this space. May be hard to organise at this crazy time of the year, but if I can get there I will!

Wait until you get your VTR - 90kph - on a VTR 250 you'll barely notice 90kph. I'm not sure but isn't that the single most expensive new 250 on the market?

GPX250 - &7,000

Scorpio 225 - $4,000
GN250 - $3,400

There's also Cruisers and chook chasers but since I couldn't get comfortable on them I didn't investigate the prices.

My wife wanted (and got) a RG150 coz she thought it looked sweet and cute...it's faster than the VTR.....by an awful lot.

Nah - a Chook Chaser is a mud bike/farm bike/motard...I found the seating too far forward and upright for my liking. Haven't really thought about scooters for a couple of decades....must borrow one some day.

Well perhaps me and your wife could have a shootout someday.Just let me get used to the VTR first.

I decided on the VTR cause I am stuck on it for awhile until I get my full and I wanted a bike I could scoot around the country on without getting frustrated by the lack of power.

The second hand 250's are holding there prices quite well, it does not matter to me if there are faster 150's out there.There are heaps of riders that will be faster than me.I will be into a bit of speed for sure, but will eering on the side of caution to start with.Gotta get some ability happening first.And speed will be relative to the ability, 100ks is going to seem lightingly fast to start with.

You made a good choice - for reliability there's nowt like it without sacrificing horsepower.

The low end torque means less chance of stalling while you learn where the biting point is (or falling off mid corner from choosing the wrong gear!)- the power delivery is very smooth for a 250 and the engine braking is substantial.

It corners very nicely and doesn't weigh too much at all.

Have you tried one yet or are you just going on other people's advice?

My missus RG is supposed to be faster - it's a 2 stroke - as such is expensive to maintain and a bit temperamental.

As you can see from my profile I have a VTR and think it is the best 250 out there (not the fastest - the best - there is a difference)

I have not ridden one yet, checked out an overpriced 2nd hand VTR, position felt good so I am confident with how its going to feel riding it, unlike some others I looked at.They are nice and light, I have to make the progression from years of riding and racing mountain and road bikes so light is good.I came to my decision that that was what I wanted from asking around, reading up on bike on specs on the internet, also a few bike reviews in mags.There is a new CB250 for about $5g comes out of Brazil, but it will not have the preforance of the VTR.
Now I am HANGING out.They say patience is a virtue.I say virtue can go you know what.
You say the "missus" RG is supposed to be faster, charming phrase men have of refering to there wifes, guess its a term of endearment.Maybe you 2 should have a shootoutThe 2stroke verus the vtwin.

I am curious to know how someone attached the words, "the truth is in the pudding" to the meaning.Perhaps cause when you put the ingredients together it does not always guarantee success, or the result that we hope for.Strange how these sayings come about.

Still if the pudding does not rise in the oven you can still eat and enjoy, turn it into trifle and smother it with cream, yum, if the bike does not live up to expectations then, ....then what, well its just a bummer.

in other words, your pudding mught look good but you won't know how good it really is until you ride it on the twisties.
